Americans are dynamic people. World statistics on the number of cars per capita show that America is in first place among the "big" countries and in third place among all countries, behind the dwarfs of San Marino and Monaco.
Where do Americans drive other than to work, shopping, and perhaps to school? Americans move, and move quite often. They relocate to neighboring cities and distant states. By and large, the U.S. looks like a big monolithic country. In fact, the U.S. is a federal republic of independent states, each with many laws, many customs, and a unique political climate.
Does the changing political climate affect population migration between states? Of course, it does, but how? What if we were to express the movement of intra-American migration, not in words, but in the language of numbers? A convenient measure of internal migration could be the U-Haul Index.
U-Haul is a truck rental company used by many Americans who relocate. The rented trucks must be driven by U-Haul customers themselves, and payment is charged one way only. That is, after unloading, it is not necessary to return the vehicle to the starting point. If necessary, the U-Haul company will take care of it. Then the prices for transportation from point A to point B will be the same as from point B to point A, but only if the average number of customers is the same at both points A and B.
If the number of orders for trucks at both destinations is the same, then U-Haul has no problems.
If the number of orders is not the same, then U-Haul must hire drivers to relocate the empty trucks, and then pay to transport these drivers back.

Talked to a guy yesterday who is just chompin’ at the bit to get the hell out of Maryland.
I always tell people moving to a new city to call the local Domino’s and ask them where the ‘good’ and ‘not so good’ places are.
I love this because costs have no political agenda, and so can be trusted far more than anyone inside the DC beltway.

That in itself is the cursed question in Florida this cycle. All those plants from Puerto Rico swaying the Florida vote.
Most people move mostly due to work and or relationships.
If they move to state that sucks the life out of them via taxes and regulations,they move.
Sometimes it might take five years, or longer, but they eventually escape.
Well don’t go to the Left coast since those three states are one party states: Democrats.

Texas continued its reign as America’s No. 1 Growth State during 2017, according to U-Haul data analyzing the past year’s U.S. migration trends.
Year-over-year arrivals of one-way U-Haul truck rentals rose 1 percent while departures climbed 3 percent from Texas’s 2016 numbers. Some of the state’s increase in overall U-Haul transactions can likely be attributed to an active hurricane season.
Despite a larger year-over-year increase in departures, arriving trucks still accounted for 50.3 percent of all one-way U-Haul traffic in Texas to maintain its status as the top net-gain state. Texas secured the No. 1 growth ranking for 2016 after settling for the No. 39 spot for 2015.
Growth States are calculated by the net gain of one-way U-Haul truck rentals entering a state versus leaving a state during a calendar year. Migration trends data is compiled from more than 1.7 million one-way U-Haul truck rental transactions that occur annually.
Florida, Arkansas, South Carolina and Tennessee rounded out the top five, and North Carolina was seventh, continuing a strong growth movement in the Southeast. California overtook Illinois on the list as the biggest net-loss state.
While migration trends do not correlate directly to population or economic growth, U-Haul growth data is an effective gauge of how well states and cities are attracting and maintaining residents.

Hmmm... The fact that the cost to rent a U-Haul OUT of California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and similar progressive states, i.e., “Blue states”, is about twice that of the cost of renting a U-Haul TO those states might just be an indicator...
