Bush to Americans on Illegal Immigrants: You Should Be Thanking and Welcoming Them
Townhall ^ | February 8, 2018 | Leah Barkoukis

Former President George W. Bush was supportive of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program Thursday, as he told an audience at a summit in Abu Dhabi that the U.S. needs to “welcome” them.

Beyond that, he said at the summit hosted by the Milken Institute, a California-based economic think tank, that Americans should be thanking the illegal immigrants for doing jobs they refuse to do.

"Americans don’t want to pick cotton at 105 degrees, but there are people who want put food on their family’s tables and are willing to do that,” he said, according to The Associated Press. "We ought to say thank you and welcome them.”

Bush, who was critical of President Trump’s approach to DACA, said “America’s their home,” referring to the program’s recipients.

Trump announced in September he was ending the program with a six-month delay to allow Congress to come up with a permanent fix. That deadline of March 5 is rapidly approaching, he continues to warn lawmakers.

Bush acknowledged the U.S. immigration system is “broken” and explained that he “tried [to fix it], but unsuccessfully.”

“It is important for our economy and also important for our soul that the immigration system functions well,” he said.

Speaking of the U.S.’s relationship with Mexico, he said it’s “vital for our economy and for our stability. We’ve got to enforce our borders and we’ve got to enforce our laws.”

Perhaps elites, like W, don’t know that there is very little hand-picked cotton in the U.S. today. Cotton farmers were smart enough to mechanize the growing and harvesting of their crop. Now they are farming with computer driven machines and drones. Cotton farmers require very little labor and would really appreciate not having to pay more taxes to feed, educate, medicate and incarcerate illegals.

This jerk kept his piehole shut during all of Obama’s Presidency out of “respect” now all of a sudden he’s decided to give us his damn 2 cents worth of lectures on how we should be welcoming illegals breaking into our country?

“Americans don’t want to pick cotton at 105 degrees”
And neither will the illegals when they are eligible for welfare that amounts to 10 times the income for manual labor.
What a maroon!

Is Bush saying since blacks no longer pick cotton, Mexicans should?

Sorry, Georgie, but the ‘jobs Americans won’t do’ has been debunked.

If given the opportunity, Americans are doing ‘those’ jobs — whether in the fields or processing plants or other venues.

reminds me of LA mayor Garcetti soon to be resident Garcetti for the outstanding job he is doing ruining LA. When Jerry Brown let 10,000 prisoners out early Garcetti says we should thank them for their service in that they did their time. Not fake news.

So if one day while the W. family is away, another family breaks into his house, moves in their stuff, helps themselves to his food, but mowed his lawn for free, he would be okay with that.

Many illegal immigrants did it in the southern states for more than a hundred years. Maybe not 105 but with all that summer humidity....

“I can’t believe I voted for this idiot.”

Aye, there is a reason I always scratched my head trying to figure out the hysterical hatred the left had for him. Even early in his presidency he made some dubious moves that had Clinton done the same thing would have been universally cheered by the left and the media (redundant).

Thinking back though, the choice was between Bush and AlGore, and JFnKerry, which helpa explain how at the time he didn’t look so bad.

Bush's statement shows that the elites view illegals as modern day slaves.

Exactly! Illegal labor is modern day slavery and I have said that for years! Anyone that supports illegals is supporting slavery and all that goes with it. The exploitation, mistreatment, deaths of illegals crossing the desert- all on those that support illegals being in this country. They are responsible!

With every passing day the Bush’s show they are no more than the head of the moderate wing of the democrat party. They are the poster children for the elitist uniparty. They are by of and for the centralized government.

Why the American Left hated this guy so much is beyond me. I think that there is a good argument to be made that W and his little white board lackey Rove did more to advance the left’s agenda than Obama.

Will someone in the Administration point out the fact that Bush's remark is disingenuous, because he knows that Trump's action, in fact, simply placed the question of DACA back to the branch of government which is required by the U. S. Constitution to make laws concerning such a matter!

“Americans don’t want to pick cotton at 105 degrees...”

Neither does anyone else, depends on how hungry you are. Plenty of share croppers picked cotton just too eat, back in the day.

We have always had cheap labor but immigrants were not required they just used poor white trash. Poor is poor and origin has nothing to do with it.
