Positioning over the Nunes FISA Memo Continues Ahead of Its Release
NRO ^ | 1 February 2018 | Andrew McCarthy

Posted on 02/01/2018 9:45:27 AM PST by lowbuck

The FBI and Democrats don’t have good reasons for wanting to prevent its disclosure to the public. . snip

All that aside, the FBI was guaranteed access to the memo before its publication because of the rules of the process. Once the committee voted to disclose, that gave the president five days to object. During that five days, Trump’s own appointees at the FBI and DOJ would have the chance to pore over the memo and make their objections and policy arguments to their principal, the president, and to the rest of the Trump national-security team. This tells us the real objection was not that they were barred from reviewing the memo; it is that they were barred from reviewing it on a schedule that would make it more difficult to derail publication. . . snip

Did a search and did not find, so hope not a duplicate.

Once again a very reasoned analysis of the memo, the timeline and reactions by the deep state and MSM.

Enjoy

Grab some popcorn and watch as the various fake news and commie mouthpieces try and spin their way out of pure, unadulterated corruption.

Excellent analysis as usual from Andrew McCarthy, thanks for posting this. The key paragraph:

“The summary memo was written because the FBI and Justice Department objected to disclosure of the underlying classified information. Now, the FBI’s objection is that the memo is not as complete as the underlying information. Either way, the point is to avoid public scrutiny.”

I am among those who believe Director Wray is a White Hat, and if that’s true, it is understandable that he would prefer to handle his own department his own way, rather than be under the gun because of a summary memo that is based on a mountain of classified information that he does not want disclosed.

The point is, knowing what little we do at this point, it’s impossible to know with any certainty what individual motives are. For example, the fact that Andrew McCabe was dismissed the day after Wray read the memo means nothing without proof that there is a connection. Causation is not the same as coincidence. Just as having objections about releasing the memo imply bad motives or a hidden agenda, it may just mean that a professional who has spent a career maintaining the confidentiality of investigations wants to continue to do that in this case.

Either way, we will hopefully soon have more information on which to speculate.

Thanks for the excellent post.

I just found it searching for a reliable statement about the impending release of the memo. Checked here expecting it not to be posted yet but here it was.

This one should not be ignored.

I originally found the statement on a less reliable source and refused to be satisfied with that.

The memo has obviously become a negotiating item; final edition depend on what the RATS will fork over.

Too late, the damage is done and one guy retiring isn't "accountability" for what has occurred.

Answer me this. Democrats faced with a 100% degree of certainty that the memo will be released are acting to stop it and rain retribution on anybody and anyone involved in the release — Why?

I don’t accept the answer that’s that damning on the Democrats. There’s something more to this. Are they hyping it up so that it’s a big nothing?

Simple tactic, Muddy The Waters.
Lie, make counter claims, accuse,deny,etc.
Deep State/Dems doing a great job making a ton of noise dutifully repeated by the neo-marxist dominant media.

GOP better release ALL the Intel that the Memo refers to or else the counter claims of the Deep State/Dems/Dominant media will be victorious .

Watch Lou Dobbs interview with Chris Farrell (Judicial Watch - Director of Research and Investigation) last night. Chris is usually fairly laid back, but he’s about as ‘on fire’ as I’ve seen him re: FBI. He said that what is going on at headquarters is also being done in the field offices and he can name one specifically - El Paso. He said he’s personally reported them to the OIG for investigation due to abuses of wiretapping, mail cover, surveillance, etc. He also is adamant that what the FBI is doing over this memo is threatening the President. Lou interview of Farrell starts around 12:09

Protecting someone's image doesn't measure up to treasonous behavior that needs the light of day. Ever since this 'memo' surfaced it's been about government protecting government under the flimsy guise of national security. Since when hiding corruption and the protection of a public image a part of national security.

If this doesn't come out in full force then complete corruption from everyone is proven.

You raise some interesting, and valid, points.

I enjoy reading Andrew M. as he takes a very complicated story and makes it simple. Especially, understanding the law and administrative rules.

Reading this make me 100% sure that the MSM, deep state and Dumbocrats are blowing smoke. But, this time I don't think anyone is buying their bull.

I totally do not understand all the back and forth, release, don’t release, we can’t release, we need to edit, we need to redact, someone else needs to review it, national security, ...........

Why doesn’t Trump/Nunes/somebody just freaking put it out there? Who specifically is preventing its release?

NORMAL people do not understand why it’s not just out there.

All this posturing, grandstanding, delaying, loopholing, lying, ..... This is exactly why NORMAL people hate lawyers and politicians.

Kimberley Strassel‏ @KimStrassel Wray and Rosenstein had their chance to argue why memo should not be released. They were overruled, even after other intelligence officials saw it. That they are now campaigning against WH in the media and with statements is pretty outrageous, to say the least. #FullofSchiff 10:22 AM - 1 Feb 2018 https://twitter.com/KimStrassel/status/959129766073843717

“Just talked with House Intel source. Said total changes to memo were: A) Unknown number of ‘grammatical and clarifying’ fixes. B) One change requested by FBI due to sources & methods concerns. C) One two-word change requested by Democrats for accuracy. House Intel GOP statement:”

Quite true. However, it is so much fun to speculate! I've actually been enjoying all the sound and fury surrounding this. It almost gives me some small bit of hope that there will be a smidgen of consequences for the evil that has been done. I wouldn't actually put any of my own hard-earned cash on the line for that happening, but I can hope.

All along, the committee has been pushing for disclosure. The summary memo was written because the FBI and Justice Department objected to disclosure of the underlying classified information. Now, the FBI’s objection is that the memo is not as complete as the underlying information. Either way, the point is to avoid public scrutiny.

It reminds me of the wolf who said to the sheep, “I’m going to kill you and eat you because you’re drinking in the same river as me and contaminating the water.”

The sheep said, “but I’m drinking down stream from you.”

Whereupon the wolf said, “I’m going to kill you and eat you anyway.”
