The “shut-down” won’t last forever and is no big deal. The consequence of resolution of the shut down though is a very big deal.
If Trump blinks he loses all of his leverage. Don’t blink. I think he knows this though. He didn’t get to where he is by giving in too quickly and not driving a hard bargain.

This latest version of the shutdown has really got me thinking of the book Animal Farm - re-read it a few years ago. With who gets paid and who doesn’t is the epitome of “some animals are more equal than others”. And the rules that the pigs created and then changed to benefit only them and their breaking the very rules that they created. The one that comes instantly to mind, “no animal shall sleep in a bed” gets a simple change of “with sheets” added to it. You common folk can sexually harass your staff, but we can and you will pay any punishment that gets awarded. You common folk will go to jail for insider trading but we can do it. I could go on all day, but too nice outside - going to go get the bike started up and waste some fossil fuel for a few hours.
Here’s an idea - why don’t we just get out of these senseless wars and entanglements and bring our soldiers home? Plenty of work to be done on our own borders.
