Democrats on Capitol Hill continue to put the needs of illegal immigrants over Americans Friday afternoon as the likelihood of a government shutdown increases by the hour.
During an emergency White House briefing Friday morning, Budget Director Mick Mulvaney explained what will happen if Democrats don't agree to a deal by midnight.
"The military will still go to work. They will not get paid. The border will still be patrolled. They will not get paid. Folks will still be fighting the fires out West. They will not get paid. The parks will be open. People won't get paid," Mulvaney said. "Parks will be open this time, and they weren't before. Let's go down the list. The parks will be open."
"The way it works is that the parks are open, but the -- especially if the services are provided by third parties, but things like the trash won't get picked up. Fannie and Freddie will be open. The Post Office will be open. The TSA will be open," he continued. "But again, all of these people will be working for nothing, which is simply not fair."
But guess who will still be getting their paychecks on time? Members of Congress.
Here's an explanation about why.
The government shutdown only affects agencies and employees that are funded through annual appropriations. But that doesn't apply to members of Congress. Salaries for members of the House and Senate are written into permanent law. (Members in both chambers currently make $174,000 a year.) That's why politicians get paid even in the event that Congress can't agree on a bill to fund the government.
Congress has the ability to change the law so their paychecks are frozen in a shutdown, but they've failed to do that too. So, here we are.
1. Lay off all those involved in the Obamacare bureaucracy.
2. Start laying off the shrubs at the EPA. Work your way through the other agencies as needed.

Obama weaponized the last shutdown. Anyone who watches the TV show The Deadliest Catch (Alaska crab fishing) may recall that in 2013, Captain Colburn of the crab boat the Wizard appeared before a congressional committee and appealed to be allowed to fish.
That SOB Obama made it as difficult as possible, closing down outdoor national parks, monuments, etc. Even the White House.
All this time I thought it was because the crab boats needed Coast Guard cover in case a boat got in trouble in the middle of the Bering Sea. But here, they work but don’t get paid.
Did he order certain agencies to stand down, knowing it would put pressure on the `pubs? (And keeping in mind their spaghetti spines.)

They got paid before.
Their pay is a necessary part of their service. As necessary as paying the electric and gas bills to keep the bases operating.

Well, Trump should point out all the previous times the military got paid, that the Law is unchanged, and tell them to go smoke themselves.

Put the military on deportation duty of illegals and expired visa holders. Deportations will shave a ton off the budget.

That is correct. Payment is deferred. But, it should be deferred for the political elite as well.

Turn down the heat in non-essential federal buildings just enough so the pipes don’t burst. Including the Capitol building with its offices . Anything more would be unjustified without appropriations.
I’m sure he and the wife have warm coats they could appear in as they discuss the necessity of actually stopping unnecessary spending during the shutdown, at least where it doesn’t touch on things like national defense.

Trump should sign an EO that says politicians not only not get paid during the shutdown, they don’t get any back pay when the shutdown ends.
That will seal the deal.
