Trump disavows Steve Bannon: 'He not only lost his job, he lost his mind'

President Donald Trump distanced himself from his former chief strategist Steve Bannon on Wednesday, contending that "he not only lost his job" but also "lost his mind" when he left the White House.

On Wednesday, excerpts from an upcoming Michael Wolff book showed that Bannon called a June 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer "treasonous" and "unpatriotic."

This is breaking news. Please check back for updates.

“Bannon has denounced it”

No he hasn’t either. It is also entirely consistent with his self indulging comments he made in another news article shortly before he was canned.

“Until confirmed by worthy news organization or President Trump himself via a tweet this is pure garbage.”

It was an official statement released by the White House and widely discussed during today’s official White House press briefing.
Donald Trump Jr. hasn’t been silent in his own twitter feed.

Bannon was fired for disloyalty. Priebus was fired for incompetence...he was not right for that kind of a job.

Yes, that SuperPAC that everyone says “spent $30 million attacking Moore” actually spent the bulk of that in the first race attacking Mo Brooks and not Moore - believing that Moore would be easier for Luther Strange to defeat in a runoff. Foolish strategy in multiple ways. They didn’t get their preferred candidate anyway and the nonpreferred candidate they allowed into the gate with that stupid strategy was unelectable. Mo Brooks would have won that race sitting at home watching TV with no campaigning.

And of course...had they not screwed up Obamacare repeal Strange would have had a greater chance of winning - there were local issues with his appointment that were already a drag on him but after the Obamacare debacle he was even further underwater to the point of no return. Bannon has blame for backing a candidate like Moore, but those aligned with the establishment also share blame for that idiotic strategy against Brooks.

The liberals on social media are jumping up and down with glee; they swear Bannon is the only reason the far right and Christians voted for Trump. According to them there is no way he can get re-elected without Bannon getting him those votes.

I do not follow all of this closely enough to have any idea why they think that. I am a Christian and I voted for Trump- I had no idea at the time who Bannon was or what he did or didn’t do. As far as I know Bannon did not influence my vote. I have no idea what the criteria is to be considered far right- but I am pretty conservative on all issues...

Actually, I don’t find the idea that Trump didn’t expect to win and was just having fun running so unlikely. He certainly has said since that being President has not been as easy as he thought.

1) Bannon is the one that pushed for Moore. Bannon pushed for someone dumb enough to make his wife the campaign manager and run a terrible campaign.

2) Again, Moore was Bannon’s boy. As Trump put it, if that “election proved anything, it proved that we need to put up GREAT Republican candidates” - certainly not ones like Moore. One you already pointed out makes dumb decisions.

3) Strange would have easily defeated Jones. Anti-Trumpers love to try to tell you that anyone Trump endorses is tainted - but it just isn’t true. Fake news.

4) We are talking about Moore here, not Brooks.

If Bannon had just fallen in line with Trump, we would still have two senators from Alabama. Bannon needs to learn his place or get out of the game.

Moore stomped Mo Brooks and Luther Strange in the primaries, The people of the State of Alabama knew all three men and overwhelmingly supported Moore. They wanted him as their next US Senator. McConnell and his gang of RINOs don’t get to pick who in the hell they want to represent Alabama in the senate. But McConnell made it perfectly clear he woukd rather have a democrat in the senate than someone he couldn’t boss around. And if Moore had won Trump would still be shouting it was because of his endorsement. But he lost so now he says “I told you he couldn’t win.” Moore had no help from the GOP. They sat on their thumbs and allowed a democrat to go to tbe senate from Alabama. To hell with all of them.

Have you forgotten how Luther Strange got the seat?

He was the state Attorney General investigating corruption in the administration of the state’s governor, Robert Bentley. He agreed to take the appointment to the seat by the very person he had been investigating. If you think Jones and his people wouldn’t have used that against Strange, you’re naive. And it would have worked, too.

Again, the best choice was Brooks, and it wasn’t Bannon who went after him and knocked him out (with smears.) It was Ditch. And Brooks was the only one of the three who could have pulled off a victory.

And the reason Moore was in the runoff was because of what McConnell and the GOPe did to Brooks. THAT is what cost the GOP the seat.

Trumpkins love to tell you that anyone Trump endorses is a great, principled winner — but it just isn’t true. Fake news. The fact is that Luther was a loser and was a RINO anyway.

You simply cannot produce hundreds of rallies and make presentations to them between three and five times per day for months on end, unless you have a high that is fed by a desire to win.

Trump was not simply going through the motions, because he would have run out of steam 25% of the way through, if that had been his motive.

The Russian collusion story has fallen flat. They’re now moving on the dementia, didn’t want to win, attacking the family, and God only knows what else.

Not buying any of it.

There is a difference between wanting to win and expecting to win. Since Republicans were his “peers” he had already won. I haven’t had the feeling that he even thought that much about Democrats except in a more abstract way. Since Hillary was just another “puxxy” she didn’t really count either. His childhood struggle was with his father, not with his mother. He had to survive the father whose expectations led to his brother’s suicide by alcohol. [Note: I read his book 30 years ago when I was counseling people with severe emotional issues.]

I saw no evidence whatsoever of him being shocked at the outcome.

It was Hillary that was shocked at the outcome.

I see nothing productive in supporting the idea he didn’t think he could win. It’s defeatist.

Any suggestion that our guy wasn’t prepared to win, or didn’t expect to win sells him short, as a guy who was ready to lead.

He was ready to lead.

Why are we having this discussion anyway? This is a Leftist pipe dream.

Bannon did a good job rounding up the screw loose zero hedge reading demo. It remains to be seen how important they will be to Trump’s reelection.

To get back to topic, regional news said DC stores will stay open after midnight to sell Fire and Fury.

Great, so when the basketball courts finally close, the homies can drop by and pick up a copy. As if...

Can you imagine someone going out to buy that book after midnight?

And if someone did, what would that say about them?

Yikes.

Homies will not be picking up a copy and there are no major books stores near where most of them live, and I don’t know of any winter basketball courts near any big bookstores. However, there are big book stores near universities and evening club and dinner locations which will attract political junkies and college students even after midnight. In downtown DC the streets are full after midnight in certain areas, and until 2 and 3 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. It would say they are interested in politics and are educated.

Buying this book, a known work of fiction, is what you think an educated person would pick up?

I think you make some good points, but that certainly wasn’t one of them.

I was talking about book buying in Washington, DC, where many people have a college degree. There President Trump received about 4% of the vote and Hillary got about 91%.

That’s a reasoned point.

I’m not convinced this book will remain a top seller very long.

When it gets down to a couple of bucks on Amazon, I may purchase a Kindle version, just so I can see what is actually in it.

It will be interesting to see just how depraved this guy truly is.
