Trump disavows Steve Bannon: 'He not only lost his job, he lost his mind'

President Donald Trump distanced himself from his former chief strategist Steve Bannon on Wednesday, contending that "he not only lost his job" but also "lost his mind" when he left the White House.

On Wednesday, excerpts from an upcoming Michael Wolff book showed that Bannon called a June 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer "treasonous" and "unpatriotic."

This is breaking news. Please check back for updates.

You make valid points.
It’s just so hard to accept that we lost to a RAT in perhaps the reddest state in the country.

Having President Trump out rallying for Luther Strange, while Bannon is, at turns, working for both Brooks and then Moore, is counterproductive. Bannon, and any other operatives like him need to get on the same page with President Trump. A party apparatus, divided against itself, cannot win elections. No less than Mitch McConnell recently has stressed that fact.
I just hope that no other critical senate or house seats are lost in the mid-terms.

Personally, I was all behind President Trump’s pick of Strange, who served well enough filling Sessions’ seat.

I understand that Brooks was a Never-Trumper. Moreover, I think he is now battling an advance stage prostate cancer.

Finally, one has to honestly admit, in virtually every way, Moore was a horrible candidate, carrying a lot of baggage.

I sincerely hope that the RNC forces gets its act together, recruits excellent MAGA candidates and motivates conservatives to vote in droves to keep the RATS out of power next November!!!

I’m no fan of Kushner , but one thing that isn’t in dispute is that Bannon has been going after Kushner for a long time now .. how long is Trump supposed to tolerate that ?
I think that Kushner cozied up to Drudge many months ago , which would explain Drudge hammering Bannon for the past 6 months

I love POTUS, but I’m not sure how I feel about this statement.

I will say this, because I think Bannon and Breitbart need our SUPPORT because they’re only one of a few really anti globalist grass roots media outlet. I don’t like trying to discredit them, it’s like shooting ourselves in the foot.

However, I think it’s interesting that after Bannon left/fired, some things were actually able to get done in those six months like working on the tax reform and passing it.
I wonder if he was the one causing a lot of friction within the WH the first six months and also the discord with congress and the WH?

I’m not placing all the blame on Bannon, but it’s clear he really screwed the pooch with Moore in Ala.

Rita, thanks for the note. There are still parts of this that leave me scratching my head.

Part of Trump's statement was also problematic.

This for instance:

“Now that he is on his own, Steve is learning that winning isn’t as easy as I make it look,” Trump said. “Steve had very little to do with our historic victory, which was delivered by the forgotten men and women of this country. Yet Steve had everything to do with the loss of a Senate seat in Alabama held for more than thirty years by Republicans. Steve doesn’t represent my base—he’s only in it for himself."

I posted this yesterday. It addressed the issue of whether Moore should be blamed for his loss or not. I think we could easily group Bannon in under that same concept.

LINK

Blaming Moore or Bannon is pointless. It evades the complicity of all things "Republican Leadership", to blame the little guy. Hey, the leadership went to war on Moore.

McConnell's reaction to this situation this morning was to tweet out a big smile. He's pleased as can be to see something blow out between Bannon and Trump.

He was also pleased to see Moore lose.

Moore was probably the most conservative candidate we'll see in the next five years. As for the Senate, he's probably the most Conservative chance we'll have in the next fifty years.

McConnell is so pleased with himself, and here Trump fell for the idea Moore was a terrible candidate. Wrong.

I just read a book on the campaign and they also credit Kushner with getting the campaign focused on the rustbelt.

Good point , I’ve read that as well ...if that was Kushner’s doing, that was a smart move ...it won Trump the election

IMHO....Michael Wolff is just like Barack Hussein Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bob Mueller, James Comey, James Clapper, etc., the lowest form of humanity, scum & vermin, 100%.

If Steve Bannon is hanging around with this low life species of human being, Michael Wolff, then Steve Bannon is lost-at-sea now and forever!!! What a horse’s behind, Bannon has become!!!

And...major shame on Matt Drudge for posting this “Wolff” “Fake News” the way he did!!! And...now Drudge is trying to cover his butt!!! Sickening, scum & vermin...Media!!!

Go POTUS, Donald J. Trump....MAGA!!!

THe rumors about Moore were known before the primary and McConnell’s people were talking about it “off the record” I think POTUS knew what was coming with Moore, and therefore backed Strange.
Even though Moore is a better candidate, supposedly he already lost two statewide elections in Alabama. Which tells me he was never very popular statewide, then lump on these allegations that came out and his non denial denial, it was a disaster. POTUS was correct in backing Strange, because he had information we didn’t.

No, I am up to date MT. Fox goes with unnamed sources as well, is that your source for Trump’s ‘statement’?

Such idiocy, it’s maddening.

“Bannon is leading the insurgency against RINO senators.”

Nice job in Alabama. Oh, and Bannon is in another headline.

As a supporter of Trump and his agenda, Bannon is NOT helping.

I posted links to the full statement in #156. The reports say Sarah Huckabee Sanders handed out the statement before a press conference today and has been posted in full by Breitbart, Fox, Reuters, etc.
