New poll has Doug Jones neck and neck with Roy Moore in AL Senate race
American Thinker ^ | 10/18/2017 | Rick Moran

Alabama is one of the most Republican states in the union.  Donald Trump coasted to victory in the state with 63% of the vote.

But the Senate race in Alabama may be an indication of how much trouble the GOP is in with voters – even with voters of their own party.  A new Fox News Poll shows Republican Roy Moore and Democrat Doug Jones neck and neck with less than two months before the December 12 special election to replace Jeff Sessions, who resigned to become attorney general.

Republican Roy Moore, the anti-Republican establishment candidate, is tied at 42 percent apiece with Democrat Doug Jones in the U.S. Senate race in deep-red Alabama.

A Fox News Poll also finds that among just the 53 percent of Alabama registered voters who are extremely or very interested in the race, Jones has a one-point edge over Moore (46-45 percent).

The special election to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is December 12.

The competitiveness of the race is striking.  Donald Trump won Alabama by 28 points in 2016, yet the Steve Bannon-backed Moore defeated the president's favored candidate, incumbent Luther Strange, in the GOP primary.

"This race exemplifies the difficulty the Republican Party has now," says Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who conducts the Fox News Poll with Democrat Chris Anderson.

"There is an element of the party that has had it with the establishment, had it with politics as usual, had it with political correctness. The fissure within the party means divisive primaries, controversial candidates, and hard choices for GOP voters once the general election rolls around."

Jones is helped by greater party loyalty, and hesitancy among Moore's own backers.

Remember, the polls said Trump was guaranteed to not be our next President—ON ELECTION DAY.

Oh another thread about fox polling of senate race in Alabama.

Fox polls are notoriously bad on a national level, I can’t imagine how bad they are at a state senate poll in Alabama.

The media never learn from their lies ... NEVER.

There’s no way any Alabama Republican would not vote for Judge Moore.

Doug should have Congressman Ossoff, Speaker Pelosi and President Hillary Clinton come in and campaign for him.

This was forecasted though, some months ago, that depending on who won between Judge Roy Moore, Mo Brooks and Luther Strange, facing a democrat, Moore could have more problems than the other two. I remember that.

I still say Moore by at least 5 percentage points.

HORSE CRAP! 3 polls out by reputable agencies 3 days before this one all have Moore up 8... 41-49, yet 2 days later he’s lost 7 points of support??? BS...

More McConnell/Uniparty push polling nonsense... Just like Hillary will win GA and is up 10 in PA... total crap.

Anyone who believes this poll doesn’t know AL politics at all. McConnell spent 30 Million dollars to take out Moore and lost by nearly 10.. the Dem is tied with him? Don’t believe this one at all... Just as bogus as Hillary up 10 in PA, and going to win SC and GA...

This push polling nonsense has to stop.

I still say Moore by at least 5 percentage points.

I'll say he wins by 7 to 10 percentage points.

I say that based on the fact that I have several friends living in Alabama.

So, is poll dancing anything like pole dancing?

I’d be worried if they said Moore was going to lose because they’re always wrong.

If they centered the poll responses to just Jefferson County, Tuscaloosa, and Mobile....then this would be correct. However, with the rest of the state...I’d say Moore is resting easily at 55-percent to Jones near 45-percent. Polling over the last decade has more or less collapsed and just not worth talking about.

ON election day, Matt Bevin was down in the polls by five points. He won by almost ten.

He is Kentucky’s version of Trump, only much more well spoken.

A good rule of thumb is to “normalize” any R vs D poll by adding 5 points to the Republican ...

If the democrat does REALLY well, Moore wins by less than double digits.... anyone who things anyone was going to take out MOORE either doesn’t know Alabama politics at all, or is just flat out lying.

Moore had this race won the day he announced.... Alabama isn’t going to go Democrat... However if this push poll gets Dems to burn $30 or $50 million like the GOPe/Uniparty/McConnell groups did backing Strange in the primary, then by all means... Spend that money! Every dollar they pump into the delusion they can win Alabama is a dollar that doesn’t get spent on a real competitive race.

If the Democrats think they have a shot at winning this race, they’ll sink a bunch of money into it.
