NHS provokes fury with indefinite surgery ban for smokers and obese
UK Telegraph ^ | October 17, 2017 | Laura Donnelly

The NHS will ban patients from surgery indefinitely unless they lose weight or quit smoking, under controversial plans drawn up in Hertfordshire.

The restrictions - thought to be the most extreme yet to be introduced by health services - immediately came under attack from the Royal College of Surgeons.

Government health care... Break a toe, and they put a whole foot boot on.

Cutting someone open who is unlikely to benefit from surgery due to being an obese smoker could be considered dong unnecessary harm.

What about appendicitis?

What about cancer? Are you going to force cancer patients to "go on a diet and workout regimen" to qualify for surgery to remove a tumor?

“In the USA, they would at least have the right to pay for their own surgery with their own money.”

If I were a doctor or hospital owner I would not operate on these folks.

But that’s a far cry from a government decision.

And that’s my only gripe with such a policy.

Government decisions always become political decisions. And one day it will be politically prohibitive to give care to White People.

"If you’re gonna seriously **** up your body by choice and demand others pay for the consequences, FOAD."

sounds great to me ... and I assume then that you also advocate the same consequences for drug overdoses from "recreational" drugs? How about for injuries suffered while under the influence of either drugs or alcohol?

But Hillary just said they did a great job fixing her toe.

The article only said smoking and obesity, not booze.

Suprised they didn’t add people that drink alcohol to the list.

I have really mixed thoughts on this one.

First, Mother Government should have NEVER been involved with ‘healthcare’ in the first place! Ever.

Secondly, if my Dad had not smoked and drank and ate his life away, my life would be MUCH simpler. ALL of his health issues, from COPD to his Diabetes are SELF-INFLICTED, making life more difficult for us both. I have gotten him off the booze, but he has such a ridiculous sweet tooth - and really, he’s going on 81. He can’t be denied ALL pleasures of life while he’s still here, can he? (Low sodium and sugar free everything is what I buy for him; he can’t shop on his own.)

But then...I don’t want ANYONE telling me how to live my life, BUT you get to a point in life where you see how precious your health IS to every other aspect of your life and you’d hope people would have a wake-up call.

(Of course, I’m not critical of people who have some horrible, disabling accident, or get a disease that is not in their genetic make up to begin with.)

*SHRUG* I have no solutions other than the ones we all normally agree on.

Should've thought about cancer before they started smoking and eating themselves to 300 pounds. And I doubt they're talking about an emergency appendectomy.

Anyhow, the science is sound that people who are obese and smoke are at a higher risk for complications due to surgery. If the patient doesn't give a crap about their own health, why should medical professionals jump through hoops to save their lives? At some point our society is going to have to start holding people responsible for the bad choices they freely chose to make instead of worrying over "fat shaming" and whatnot.

Does this mean they don’t have to pay the taxes that support the NHS?

I’m curious, ctdonath2, if you eat meat?
And if you’d be singing the same tune if the govt. decided eating meat is considered bad for your health, and you had to go vegan for a year before surgery because you screwed up your body by eating meat and the government told you it caused some disease.
Should you FOAD?

Actually, white people will always get the best care. They're the ones who have to pay for everything.

I’ll pose the same question to you, Drew.
Do you eat meat? Any processed foods?
Should the UK ppl be forced to exist on a diet or other lifestyle regimen that they deem healthy, because to deviate is unhealthy and costs too much money?

some places in the US will charge back to the client for emergency calls if you are engaging in risky behavior.

Absolutely right. The brave new world we live in allows us to see genetic predispositions now. So even the most fit and healthy young people may already have some type of genetic time bomb ticking in their body which will lead to serious consequences as they age. Why should the state spend one dime to temporarily postpone an inevitable result? Death panels will never happen of course.

How is the doctor footing the bill? Can we put a microscope over your life and see what we will find? That would affect your health? Got any fat or smoking friends that you don’t give a s*** about if they live or die if they needed surgery?

Yeah! Exclude them right out of the gate!
Wait, just abort all the mutants, in the name of science and health!!
In fact, they should screen all breeders before and sterilize any sort of “risk” they may have of producing a fat, smoking, drinking, meat eating, diabetic, cancer risk.
