The Republican civil war is spreading
The Week ^ | October 13th, 2017 | Paul Waldman

arties don't descend into vicious civil wars when things are going well for them. So the fact that it's happening now to the GOP tells you a lot about what Republicans are facing, even though they control the White House, Congress, and a majority of state houses and governorships. They are beginning to tear themselves apart over the question of who is to blame for their current difficulties, with one side saying it's the fault of a feckless establishment that is insufficiently loyal to President Trump, and the other side saying — mostly sotto voce, but occasionally out loud — that the responsibility lies with Trump himself.

If the president was right in his repeated insistence that his administration has been a smashing success, there wouldn't be anything to fight about. But in truth, things could hardly be worse: No major legislation has been passed, the effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act was a spectacular failure, Trump's approval ratings are abysmal and a majority of Americans say he's not fit to be president, one Republican officeholder after another is choosing not to run for re-election, polls show Democrats headed for a dramatic win in 2018, and even the one goal Republicans were all supposed to agree on — a big tax cut for the wealthy and corporations — looks like it might be in trouble.

All of which leads to dissension from within, as White House staff rush to tell reporters that the president is an infantile rage-monster whom they have to trick into not burning down the world. When Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) expressed his concerns about Trump's erratic behavior, none of his colleagues came out to contradict him and say that in fact Trump is a wise and careful leader who is performing his duties successfully,

This is so stupid. If the Republicans in Congress just supported Trump, the Republican Party would be dominating like never before. The Democrats would be absolutely finished.

It’s not a civil war; it’s called draining the swamp...

His administration has been a smashing success, despite the GOP Congress.

We got another great example here where Tim Murphy, who won seven consecutive terms running as a GOP Pro Lifer, was exposed sending instructions to his mistress to get an abortion, and had to resign.

Lying scumbags, all of ‘em. Fire them all.

A complete misreading of the current situation.

It is not that things are not going well for Republicans.

It is that things are not going well for the Establishment elite, of which many Republicans, along with nearly all Democrats, are a part.

The republicans in congress can’t support president Trump because he hurt their feelings.

The nominal Republicans are majorities in Congress but they do not control Congress. They have ceded control to the Democrats through McConnell and Ryan who are arguably Democrats(R).

They can’t support him because they are bought and paid for to support a different agenda.

The two parties are undergoing internal cleansing by purists. Collectivists are nearly 100% successful in their takeover of the dem party. Now the repubs are in the process of defining whether the party is conservative or progressive.

No major legislation has been passed

The house and senate make their own rules. Trump has nothing to do with their inability to pass legislation.

That's a good point. It just appears the vast majority of Republicans in Congress are Establishment.

It’s not a war between Republicans. It’s a war waged by the corrupted deep state pedos against the American People.

The truth is that the GOP has for decades been working against their own voters.

They supported a bipartisan policy of non-enforcement of immigration laws and borders designed to permanently alter the demographic makeup of the country.

The most important thing to most elected Republicans is keeping the borders open and the laws unenforced.

They will continue to support illegal aliens and their employers until they are removed from office.

That is what drives the NeverTrump faction.

CANTORIZE YOUR WEASELS, AMERICA!
