The Whigs were pretty much finished by 1858 because they couldn’t change to reflect the realities of the mid-19th century. Lincoln was a Whig.
The critters each represent a small part of the country.
A majority of Americans all voted for President Trump.

Like the NFL’s Goodell needing over a year to greet reality, and Target and JCPenny’s CEOS waiting until share prices were tanking, if the GOP-e waits much longer they’re toast too.
They can continue to represent special interests and “extend hands across the aisle” but we want a sane budget, tax reform, jobs, a secure border, defenestration of a bloated, corrupt federal shadow government, as well as many other things.
If they can’t get on the stick, they can plan on fleeing to their pals on K street, until those matters are addressed.

The president on TV now saying he will refuse to recertify Iran agreement and kicking it over to Congress. Compare and contrast with Barack Insane Obama, who is not a muslim, giving Iran billions.

They (those elected GOP idiots) must surely be listening to their equally moronic “advisors” who assure them their (really large congributors) voters want them to oppose Trump even if that means not doing what they’ve promised time and again to do!

“They have ceded control to the Democrats through McConnell and Ryan who are arguably Democrats(R).”

Of course they know this. They aren’t stupid.

Their obstruction reveals their true allegiance, NOT to the People, but to their DONORS/Deep State/Shadow Gov’t. It’s beyond obvious by now.

They wear different colored costumes but they are commies, all. It’s about time we consider this a “given”, and move forward accordingly.

even the one goal Republicans were all supposed to agree on — a big tax cut for the wealthy and corporations

I'm sure the author is oh so concerned about the welfare of the Republican Party.

This is left wing drivel...

Yes the GOPe is in trouble, but it isn’t because voters are on the verge of putting Dems in office. It’s because voters are tired of the traitorous behavior of the Uniparty.

This fool thinks that because voters are sick of the uniparty crap, and are not going to support a GOPe shill just because they have an R beside their name that means they will vote D.. this is abject nonsense.

Even when it comes to the inner struggle within the Republican Party theseleft wingers can’t see the obvious.

They can’t support him because they are bought and paid for to support a different agenda.

So it clearly appears.

This is where I stopped reading the article:
"If the president was right in his repeated insistence that his administration has been a smashing success, there wouldn't be anything to fight about."

The author of this piece is obviously a liberal. He needs to take a look at his side, as they are faring no better. So no, the Democrats are not headed for a dramatic win in 2018.

non-establishment Democrats

I do not believe that one exists seeing as they all vote as their party dictates. Perhaps there are a few exceptions, but not enough to accomplish what you suggest.

The anti-American Chamber of Crony Commerce is their master and that is why nothing is being done. The triple C has blood on it’s hands now with their open borders.

When their open borders allows a nuke through and it goes off and wipes out a US city Thomas Donohue and the triple C should be hunted down and tarred and feathered at the very least. In their world a city and two hundred year old culture being destroyed is a fair trade off for them to be able to rape the country and keep the $$$ rolling in. They are true scum every bit as anti-American as the communist aholes in Antifa.

You are correct Trump is not a typical Republican, nor is he a conservative and he has done things that I detest. But he has done many things I love and I get the impression he loves America. The Republican creatures in congress love their offices, not the country and could care even less about their constituents.

It may take Trump being a mean SOB to break the country out of it’s second Gilded Age. He can’t be bought off like Little Jebbie and GWB could.

You are correct. After 2018 there will be a lot less going back to that cushy job in DC. All voters have to remember is that Republicans in congress lied to the people for 7+ years, have done nothing even though they had control of both chambers. I guess the platform for 2018 will be re-elect us and we will do nothing and make sure Trump get nothing done. Trump supporters may not vote for the democrat but we sure has hell can stay home. Come 2020 we will be able to clean the republicans out of the senate. If the incumbent has a primary vote for challenger never the incumbent. Bottom line is the republican party need to split into two. The McCain/Collins group on one side and We the people on the other.

I should have been clearer. I was talking about non-establishment Democrat voters. Most of us are non-establishment Republican voters. The establishment ignores all of us.

Nobody’s concerned.

We’re joyous at the imminent demise of the Republican Party.

At least as now constituted.

I would vote for a Democrat before I would vote for a Republican traitor.

And every Republican in the Senate now is a traitor. Every stinkin’ one of them.

If the Republicans in Congress just supported Trump, the Republican Party would be dominating like never before. The Democrats would be absolutely finished.

Why would Republicans want to hurt members of their own party, the Democrats?
