Have Tattoos? Well … Study Says: Lower Your Professional Expectations
Heartland Institute ^ | 10/8/17 | Clifford F. Thies

Have a tattoo? If the answer is “yes,” it’s more likely you’re unemployed or completely out of the labor force. On average, your income is lower. You’re more probably a smoker, use illegal drugs, engage in risky sexual behavior, have been a victim of crime, and have been incarcerated for committing crime yourself.

You don’t get to determine a man’s value based on your ignorance. I’ll bet that pisses you off.

You belong at DU with your identity politics.

Times are changing. There isn’t the stigma there used to be about tattoos anymore. That being said, old people rule the world, and generally, old people are more conservative. So yes, you are limiting yourself in many and most cases, but not all the time.
I have 3, and I have worked white and blue collar jobs.

I work in a fairly high profile job for a fortune 500 company. I also have a huge lavender rose tattoo on my right forearm.

Nobody cares except the self righteous.

Maybe he’s talking about a discrete mathematics tattoo? A statistics freak?

You could say the same thing about a lot of things. Do you listen to country? Drive a Chevy? Wear camo?

Tattoos are the new smoking. Wait for it, do they get legal protection or treated to remove?

Could be. He couldn't have meant a tattoo that was by itself, because he'd already said "one."

In many cases lots of tats are probably a sign of someone desperately wanting to stand out and craving attention, which in itself hints of being self-centered and/or the non-conformist type. Not the case with everyone, of course, that’s how employers may see it. Rightly or wrongly.

As people age, tats start looking distorted and unbecoming. Just look at some of the people on the beach the next time you go. Makes you wonder what they were thinking.

Oh - and you’re usually the least attractive person in the room.

I can usually walk into a room and size people up fairly well and fairly accurately.

As far as tats, it's not always JUST having a tat, it's the type and location.

It also includes many other things.

You can show me 2 people with the exact same tattoo in the same location on their bodies and I can have differing opinions.

Does the tat make or break the person?
NO!

But it is A PART of the overall picture.

Their can be a guy with a tat, that is just one of the boys.

Another guy with a tat/s, that is the "bad boy" with the ladies.

Another guy, trying to be trouble.

And another WHO IS.

Then, of course there is the quiet, clean cut guy, who to most seems unassuming, but his body language and alertness "scream" that he could probably take apart most anybody in the room.

I understand that the firm Sagman, Bennet, Robbins, Oppenheim and Taft is the best for tattoo removal lawsuits. Ask for Vanessa.

Or wisely avoid a confrontation altogether.

There’s tattoos, and there’s tattoos.

I’d say surface area and location need to be factored in. Facial tattoos, sleeves—that’s where you will find your big negative correlation with income.

A small flower or butterfly on a woman... not so much.

Same thing here, I had plenty of designs for tats (my own drawings) but when I had money, I had other priorities. Besides could buy a tool, firearm, or photographic equipment, something tangible and with a resale value, rather than ink in my skin which of course, had none. Now, I have no desire for ink, although I don’t believe I would have had regrets over my designs other than the money wasted.

In all the years I was employed, I never mooned my boss, so why would this have limited my upward mobility?
