The Russians were active with an air attack at the other end of Syria the other day.

Not sure if this is tit for tat but DEBKA has dissed Russian activity in Syria as allied with its enemies Iran and Hezbollah.

Naharnet reports this was a hit on a Hezbollah weapons storehouse: http://www.naharnet.com/stories/en/235738-israeli-strikes-hit-hizbullah-weapons-depot-by-damascus-airport-monitor-says

That sounds plausible.

Naharnet to me, is close to the best unbiased source to read about things over there and they are in Lebanon right on Syria’s border... but that’s just for me, others may choose other sources.

This story is not being widely reported yet.

Second recent Israeli air strike in Syria. Both went into the heart of the pretty sophisticated Russian-supported air defenses. Two thoughts: 1. the Israelis have sophisticated equipment and tactics; 2. I hope these strikes don’t tip off the Russians to all of our own capabilities to the extent they review and upgrade again.

Had nothing to do with the Russians and everything to do with the Golan and Lebanon.

Some deeper reporting. Thanks.

It appears a drone or drones were used for this attack, not piloted aircraft.

And like all strikes lately, was signed off by the Russians and possibly the Syrians.

I am not drawing parallels at all; Israel has to defend themselves;

But as ISIS is defeated, rolled back, beaten... Hezbollah and Iran “possibly expanding”, Israel is becoming more active.

I follow the situation, Netanyahu has met with Putin 4 times in the last year, that’s nothing to sneeze at, imagine if Pres. Trump met with any foreign leader that often.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/netanyahu-hails-very-successful-meeting-with-putin/

Couldn’t find that exact figure, 4 times in the last year but I do think it’s often reported on. Putin in fact, gave Netanyahu some special Holy writings not too long ago. I’m sure people remember that, a Bible, Torah, Talmud, something.

I wouldnt be surprised if there are special channels of communication between Israel and Russia regarding these strikes

Russia and Iran are “ allies” with certain mutual strategic and business interests but not ideologically united - iran is, after all. a weaponized muslim theocracy aimed at the “ godless “ Russians as much as at the infidel US

Not at all. Do a little research. Hezbollah as been and is still supported by the Damascus/Tehran cabal.

Iran funnels weapons through Syria to Hezbollah and Hamas, that’s the Shia crescent. Syria has been a designated state sponsor of Terrorism since 1978, no way would Syria sign off on such strikes into Damascus as these were. Ridiculous.

The Israelis are most likely not overflying any of those air defenses. They are most likely using something like the weapon shown in this video.

Israeli political and military leaders went directly to Moscow for a meeting just before Putin kicked it in Syria

Expect that certain agreements and deconfliction procedures were agreed regarding Israeli involvement vs Russian Air Force over Syrian airspace

Yea but Damascus may not be entirely thrilled to have a weaponized entity in its capital, especially one funded by Iran. It increases the threat of a coup.

The 1978 Syria of Hafez Al-Assad is not exactly the same 2000- 2017 Syria of Bashir Al Assad

The utility of Hezbollah non- Syrian fighters in Syria to liberate and defend Syrian shia villagers grows less and less useful to Assads long term interests as radical sunni islamist militias like isis and al Nusra are eradicated

Sending them back to Lebanon, Iraq and Iran is going to be an issue

May also be a response to Syria/Iran taking down a drone.

Russia arms Iran, votes in Iran’s favor at the U.N. and does the same for North Korea.
