As fast food employees across the U.S. continue to protest for higher wages, a California chain restaurant has decided to hire a new staff member that works for free. The competition for the companys low-wage workers: a burger-flipping robot named Flippy.
CaliBurger has announced they will be installing the high-tech replacement in 50 of their locations around the world. Flippy, the robotic kitchen assistant, was created by a California startup company called Miso Robotics and is expected to roll out in 2018.

“Can it do medium rare upon request?”
Would you be comfortable eating one that was medium rare?
$28,858 - is the median income for a family of four according to the census in 1984.
Set to 1 by default.
>>3mm to flip burgers. Lets say you have 10 kitchen employees at one of these places. Then its replacing at a cost of 300,000 per employee. Lets use the $15 per hour. Thats 20000 hours of labor. Thats 2500 8 hour days. It will take that robot 6.849 years to replace 10 $15 per hr employees working 8 hrs a day, every day of the year.
Your analysis fails to figure in employer’s SS contribution, health care costs, overtime costs, mandated vacation pay.. etc... etc... A $15/hr employee costs WAY more than $15/hr to employ.
The left will soon insist, "Robots are People Too!" and it will start all over again.
double it and its about 3.4 years. But thats using 10 employees. That means one robot is replacing 20 hands working at once. Fewer workers extends that breakeven back out beyond 3.4 years. Can that machine build 10 burgers at once?
Are these US robots or imported robots? Only US robots should be allowed. We must prevent the use of illegal or imported robots.
I bought an egg biscuit at McDonald’s 3 weeks ago that did not have an egg on it.
I use ATM machines at the bank too... AND I'm looking forward to cheaper/better healthcare. 'Computer as doctor' is next. It'll have the advantage of being 'a doctor' who's information is up to date and NOT based on what was learned in medical school 40 years ago...
Paul Ryan rather than wasting time how 'who gets money to insurance company fat cat donors' should instead be working on "healthcare' not 'money to donors' care.
Can any fast food place do that, or for that matter any restaurant? Sure they can but will they?
I went to McDonald’s today. I rarely eat fast food, but sometimes ya just got to.
I ordered at the kiosk for the first time.
Took a minute to figure it out, pushed the right buttons and figured out how to pay.
Got my order, and was off. 4 minutes max.
On a very busy lunch crowd, two people worked the front.
If the two people at the front can maintain the kiosks, I’d pay them $20/hr.

This will certainly cut down on e-coli cases, and probably provide a more consistent product.
>>and vote for them. ; )

Oh yes! How did I miss that! Thanks!
How much will they cost if you order ten thousand robots—has to be a discount there. :-)
With weekends off!
I do kiosk and automation repairs and support, offer me $15 an hour and ill laugh at you
Yes but they will leak nut free vegetable oil
At least it can’t spit on your burger. That’s at least one thing in the plus column.
one a store? 5 a store?
