Two U.S. service members were killed Wednesday in a suicide car bomb attack on a NATO convoy near Kandahar in southwestern Afghanistan, Pentagon officials said.

Several other troops were wounded in the attack, but the number of wounded and their nationalities were not immediately disclosed.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack near the airfield on the outskirts of Kandahar, the group's spiritual birthplace.

I don’t even bother reading beyond the headlines of these stories anymore. U.S. military veterans get all the respect I can give, but I really have to wonder what the hell us going through the mind of anyone who puts on a military uniform these days and places their safety in the hands of a government and military leadership as fouled up as ours.

Why are we still there?

Sorry for the loss of an Americans, but why are we still there? 17 years and counting and virtually nothing has been accomplished (besides getting a lot of people killed and maimed).

You notice that under obama these were NATO casualties but now reported truthfully as US deaths

Brave men, terrible eternal loss to their families ...
For what gain

Because Trump is not being all he can be. I say that as a very strong supporter of Trump and as someone who strongly believes Trummp is Making America Great Again. But he is committing several unforced errors. Remaining in Afghanistan is one of them. He promised to get us out of Bush-Clinton entanglements. Just do it!

There’s a reason why this country was built on the success of colonial militias that were basically paramilitary organizations whose leaders were very hesitant to put much trust in the wisdom of government bureaucrats.

yep hardly a mention when obama was in, but now they are US deaths, not NATO deaths.

My oldest is a Marine, and I still have no idea why the hell are we there except maybe a few special forces working away from the Afghans, and Paki’s on that border, and doing their own thing like killing backward scumbags.

The Taliban, Sunni Terrorists. Where are the Russophiles now, since Russia is supplying these people? At seeing the headline, I would have thought this was an ISIS act originally.

Not statistics. Two more families devastated needlessly, for nothing. Two more mothers grieve today, and for the rest of their lives.

Scorch the earth, and leave.

Kind of the way it seems Afghanistan seems to be destined - carved into fiefdoms run by warlords with no permanent loyalty to any central authority
They can choose to ally with the taliban or take them down if they cross the tribal authorities - they can also deal with ISIS interlopers

Question of the day: when was Afghanistan ever NOT a failed state?

If the answer is never then all we need is a geopolitical strategy of containing their miserable failed country so they cant damage us or our interests
If Russia China Iran and Pakistan want the role - go for it
