A man I knew and highly respected said something similar to me once: "Real men don't have sex with the women they love--unless they're married to them." It's one of my favorite statements.

For some (immature) women, unfortunately, they're not. And those women don't generally end up happy.

The violence occurs because they are low class ghetto people. Married or not, it doesn’t change anything.

Arranged marriages seem to help, there's less of an expectation of a truly wonderful E-Ticket ride, there's not the same sense betrayal when your chosen life's partner fails to make all your dreams come true all the time.
Pre-marrital celibacy also helps. There's better imprinting than the blurring of focus multiple random partners leads to.
No easy solutions, as passionate emotions are part of the human condition.

Both of them, of course, but I only called out the woman because she's the one I'm interested in. I'm exasperated because she has such a low opinion of herself that she'd deliberately have sex outside marriage with a violent ex-con. She might as well have been wearing a sign that said, "I'm worthless! Use me! Knock me up! And if I make you mad, set me on fire in front of my children!" The worthless lowlife she was with read the sign clearly.
If women only had sex within marriage, the human race would have gone extinct thousands of years ago.
Perhaps a slight exageration, but certainly a data point to contemplate.
Not just violence against women, but their children by an earlier boyfriend. It’s Mother Nature trying to secure the genes of the protagonist.
I know a young woman just like that. She “dates” the ex-cons, gang members and any other low life you can think of. There is no reasoning with her. I know her self-esteem must be non-existent. She has two young children too. Her mother said she knows one day she will receive a call saying something has happened to her. Her mother is a devout Christian and prays for her daughter and grandchildren every day.

It also occurs with married people, but nowhere near as often. Ask any social worker.
What I'm saying is that a woman who regards herself as worth being treated like a queen doesn't have sex--and often children--outside marriage. A woman with a high opinion of herself doesn't end up as a low class ghetto person.
I understand your point that the mere act of marrying doesn't guarantee a happy life, but a man who's willing to marry a woman is nearly always a better bet than a man who isn't. And a woman who says, "I deserve a husband and a happy marriage," is more likely to get both than a woman who says, "I'll sleep with you even though you don't want to marry me, because maybe then you'll love me and change your mind."

Why are some women attracted to such losers?
I don’t know.
I friend if mine that I grew up with is an ex-con, drunk, junkie, loser and is getting married to a beautiful woman with an advanced degree. She has lived a clean life.
Everyone from me to his brothers and father has told her to get out of the relationship now and to not look back.
She ain’t listening.
