If I flashed a large roll of cash in a ghetto stripper bar, and got robbed and beaten in the restroom there, most would say I had been an idiot for putting myself in that situation, while not excusing the guys who mugged me.

Similarly, while not excusing what the guy did to her, she WAS an irresponsible fool for putting herself AND her kids in a position of vulnerability to this thug. She was the one who chose to let a career criminal into her life. He could just as easily killed her kids too, so as to leave no witnesses.
