It is internet order system. No taxes, No delivery charges on purchase over $50 so you can order form home.
At least not contributing to leftie Bezos or Chinese junk Walmart.
Just wait until vets start selling their accounts.
I’ve been retired for 25 years in Aug, haven’t been in an AAFES facility in over 15 years. Most everything there you can get cheaper somewhere else and they tend to carry high end stuff.
Are you sure? At end of day it is the same products, same brands.
No, we still use them. We still get discount prices on stuff, the 5% surcharge is better than the state tax, plus there are no handy civilian sources for uniform items.
I’m heading over to the PX and commissary shortly.
I went to the vetverify.org site and received approval, but will I also have to bring my DD-214 as proof?
Yeah, the PX is not what it once was. I've gotten a few good deals (Macs, S&W) mostly due to no tax, but their eslection is limited, and as you pointed out, is often beaten online. Commissary is pretty much the same.
Wonder if it’s more hassle than it’s worth. I’ll still give it a shot.
I’m sure you do. But given the number of shopping options, AAFES is an example of government doing things they no longer need to do. It’s an unnecessary cost to the taxpayer and should be shuttered IMHO.
I got verified in ten seconds. My understanding is after November 11, photo ID is all that is required. VA ID Card. Drivers License, etc. Subject to change of course...being a government program and all.
I don't know about today, but Navy Exchanges were definitely significantly cheaper in the '60s and '70s.
And Amazon is not always the cheapest either.
Thanks donozark! It took about 10 seconds for me to get verified too. I got the following email, so it sounds like we're signed up:
Thank You!
You can begin shopping on November 11, 2017
Thank you for applying to participate in the Veterans online shopping benefit. Congratulations! You have been verified and can begin shopping when this benefit launches on November 11, 2017. The exchanges will keep you updated with important developments.
There is a VA, photo ID card. I was issued one a few years back at a VA medical facility.
It’s ONLINE only. You still need to be active/reserve/retired to physically shop on base/post.
3 square meals a day, clean rack and all the coffee you can drink.......lobster every Friday (we had a deal with another squadron to swap beef for lobster)
I was aviation........
Appreciate you groundpounders.......it’s so cute the way you scurry around down there in the mud :^)
I check that site daily to see what the Super Daily Special is. Most of the time it is stuff I don’t want or need. Once in a while I get a super deal on something. Other than that, you are correct. Amazon has better deals on most stuff.
One other plus is that you can return most items you purchase at the local base exchange.
Yep. Same here. The exchanges are terrible. Often, they're more expensive than Walmart. Even the commissaries aren't the discounts they used to be.

The exchanges are in it now as they have continued to charge more money for products until they are competitive with the outside world. This is just a ploy to increase sales to cover their financial problems in their competition with stores like COSTCO and it’s family of stores designed to sell mass. Every area has them and they have been working toward being competitive, and more, with AFEES and AFCOMS for years from taking cuts in their profits to create customer increases to selling generic products.
