I'll check it out. Thanks Will88!
I filled out the online form, and it instantly told me I was qualified to shop when the program kicks of in November.
Whether they’re cheaper than Amazon or not, it never hurts to at least have options.
I can beat BX prices all day long at Amazon, Walmart and other local stores. Furniture is about the only thing I can get cheaper there, and I don’t buy very much. I find the commissary and auto hobby shop to be much more valuable to me.
I use to pay $1.10 for a CARTON of cigs at the PX. Quite a while ago.
IF anything like our Navy Exchange be prepared for high end brands with STICKER SHOCK attached. Unless you shop the clearance racks at end of season, furniture expensive cheap Ashley, electronics out of date. Only time you get a decent buy is when the put basic school supplies on special.
What are you saving is it’s just state sales tax. Only big ticket items save you more than a couple of bucks. Many places give 10% Military discounts.
Not surprised by that. Setting up to allow millions of vets to go onto military bases would probably have been too much of a security hassle.
Yes, you can shop any Military Commissary or Exchange or whatever your branch calls them. In any state, or Military base as long as you have your Military ID.
Ever use the VA, they will have your records, you have to submit a DD-214 to your US Rep with a request for them, it’s how we got my dad’s WW2 Vet.
Do you have a training gun range nearby, some will ‘hold’ your gun so you can go on base.
Contact US Rep with a copy and a letter of request, also request any medals or ribbons, those take slightly longer, especially if any are high enough to warrant engraving. Dad’s Bronze Star was the only 1 engraved.
2 things: 1) It’s the thought that counts. I appreciate it every time our service is recognized even though I enlisted just to get away-nothing patriotic.
2) Reminds me of the old military saying-’don’t volunteer for anything.’
Immediate Gold Star family members may also shop on base after a few steps.
I just signed up for my husband. Took about 5 minutes to get verified. He served two years -1955-1957.
Exchanges...I try to shop there for what I can for those last reasons. It has limits as far as non-sale prices...some good and many not, but they do price match Amazon (if it is a “sold by Amazon” item) and I have done that on several things, especially big ticket items, even though am a Prime member. No sales tax and portion goes to military.
The online only option is a good option for veterans to have...I wonder if they would offer price matching but could be a hassle. Also hope the verification process is smoothed out. I've had hits and misses with those even with more recent service. I have DD-214s on hand but local vet organizations are definitely a source of help for those that need to get them.
I paid $2.50 when I was in. And beer was $2.67 a 12 pack at the NCO Package Store...
I’m so old that I have a service number (NO, it’s not 1). Didn’t use SSN back then.
I actually complained to the manager of a Power Zone in Mainz, Germany. They only sold HDMI cables that were gold plated for 20 bucks a piece, when you could go to the the German store for 3 bucks and change. Why would they do that? Just to rape the GI’s IMO! The only thing that you can get cheaper in an AAFES store that you can get on the economy is electronics. Food, Clothing, you name it all costs more than online or the economy. Sad!
Good afternoon.
“my records went up in some fire...”
Mine too, but have DD-214 and a few other records.

Back when I was in Walmart wasn’t big yet, but we called KMart the Enlisted PX.
