What happens if McCain can't go back to work in the Senate?

Sen. John McCain's office announced Wednesday he has a cancerous brain tumor.

McCain's office is optimistic of his return to his duties, saying "Further consultations with Senator McCain's Mayo Clinic care team will indicate when he will return to the United States Senate."

The tumor, a glioblastoma, is a highly malignant, aggressive, cancerous tumor, according to the American Brain Tumor Association. McCain is 80 years old. He is getting treatment, including chemotherapy and radiation, at the Mayo Clinic.

The Seventeenth Amendment established the rules of appointing vacancies in the Senate. In Arizona, if a senator dies, resigns or is expelled, Gov. Doug Ducey would appoint a replacement of the same political party.

The governor could choose to appoint himself. The person appointed would serve until the next statewide election.

To some this up unless McCain resigns or dies he stays in. Gov. Ducey is a Republican.

Not only that, the Senate will wait for him before it deals with Obamacare.

“Work” and “the Senate” hardly go together.

When Songbird dies, the Dems will have his body mummified and it’ll be wheeled in for senate votes, where Pelosi will be his “speaker for the dead” and cast the vote as McCain’s ghost told her he wanted it cast.

Ducey may be a RINO — we’ll know when we see who he appoints.

How can he go back to work when his doctors have diagnosed him with a brain tumor? Isn’t that a cause of mental deficiency?

It’s one thing to be deficient and blame it on anything. Quite another to have a reason for it.

I wish him a speedy and full recovery, and I will pray for him.

It should be noted that, under 0bcare, an ordinary citizen of 80 years would probably not get any treatment.

The “special” people, our rulers, probably would.

NOT to demean the Senator’s condition, but I can see McCain playing this for all he can wring out of it.

Who is the best Rep in AZ? Gosar, Franks, Salmon, and Schweikert are all conservative.

The Swimmer had brain cancer; that didn’t stop him from defiling the Senate!

Traditionally, as long as the Senator can be gotten on the floor, the Senator’s staff carry on.

They’re so full of themselves, if he returns, they will name the bill after him. That is, if there’s a bill to vote on.

My opinion is that if McCain goes back to work with a cancerous brain tumor and is concurrently undergoing debilitating radiation (and devastating chemo if that doesn't help) and his family goes along with it....I have only one word for the whole situation....ghoulish.

That’s what killed Bette Davis in “Dark Victory.”

Any man who absolutely MUST be a Senator until his last breath is sick into death, anyway.

Isn’t that a cause of mental deficiency?

Yes, but when did that stop anyone from serving?
To some, it's practically a requirement.

Somewhere in what’s left of his brain is the thought of a bit of immortality as the final Senate vote needed to convict an impeached Trump. That’s consistent with his self image.

Jan Brewer would make a fine replacement if Ducey doesn’t appoint himself. She would definitely vote for the wall and for repeal.
