Russian President Vladimir Putin's Syrian gambit was a fatal mistake that may soon destroy Russia and Putin himself. Putins strategy in Syria makes the Titanic look watertight.
Its gotten so bad for Putin in the Syrian quicksand that a Russian analyst, Leonid Issaev, who actually lives in Russia, just published an article in al-Jazeera entitled, Russia is at a dead-end in Syria, Russia is struggling and failing to find a way out of the Syrian quagmire. Mr. Issaevs thesis is that the Kremlins gamble to use the conflict in Syria to normalize relations with the West after the disaster in Ukraine is not paying off. Moscow is appearing to be stuck in Syria, entangled in Damascus and Tehrans desperate plots.
For a Russian analyst living in Russia to openly declare Putins Syria policy a dead-end without fearing for his life shows how truly dire the Syrian situation is for Putin.
I, however, wouldnt say Putin has hit a dead-end. I would say that it is much worse, in fact, a potentially fatal, disaster for Putin and Russia that is worsening by the day.
Putin has been geo-strategically reduced to being a pawn of the two greatest sponsors of state terrorism and genocidal war criminals on the planet earth today, Assad and Iran.

Interesting take on what is going on in Syria.
This is Prophetic IMHO.
He’s got a short window of opportunity to turn this around with very little prospect of certainty.
Isaiah 17:1-14 & specifically the evil thought of Gog in Ezekiel 38.

What disaster in Ukraine?
Hey Mark,
You don’t drown in Syria.
You get bogged down, sunk, buried, stuck or any other verb commonly associated with sand.
You don’t drown in the desert.
Wow, I had no idea Russia’s GDP had collapsed so badly but I double-checked the article’s figures and they’re true. This is a disaster for Putin.
Pinging the End Times ping list to the article ‘Putin is drowning in Syria’

His country is loaded with Sunni muslims that he is going to end up having a problem with over siding with Iran
But, what if you make it all the way to a secure Russian port on the Mediterranean? There's plenty of water there, and Russian access has been part of the Great Game for a long time.
Syria is Russia’s Vietnam?
LOL! you’re killin’ me Swine.
Putin took Crimea from them and then started a separatist movement in eastern Ukraine so that Russia now controls a large percentage of what used to be Ukraine.
Putin wants to block the pipeline through Syria and has shown he’s willing to done what he has to in Syria to keep Assad in power.
Controlling the flow of natural gas to Europe is what is most important.
He’s former KGB.
The removal of other strongmen in the region has been disastrous. Removing Assad should not be the goal. Putin is not going to give up Syria.
We tried our hand at nation-building in Iraq, Syria would be worse.
We should have stayed out entirely and not armed the jihadists.
When they've been there fifteen years and are going a trillion dollars a years in debt to maintain their bases and wars around the world, then I'll listen to this sort of fantasy.
Normalize relations with the west?
I always thought the Russian involvement in Syria was an attempt to fill a middle east power vacuum...a vacuum formed in large part by Barry O...if for no other reason to prevent the entire region from becoming a jihadi training camp (remember the Russians have their own share of terrorism problems in their south).
What's changed is the vacuum is no longer there. Trump is using US force in the region (at his electoral peril as Michael Savage and others are apoplectic), and Putin is no longer guaranteed the 'easy payoff' of being the top dog in the region after a few short years of special ops warfare, essentially co-opting anything good that came out of our nation's decade of wars there.
Short version - Barry aint around no more, Putin doesn't always get what he wants anymore.
BTW, any sane person would know that, of the two candidates for president, Putin would prefer HRC, which makes this collusion talk nonsense.
Proffer a deal with Assad and Trump that guarantees a reformed Syrian government (new Constitution), the eradication of ISIS, safe-zones for refugees, and amnesty for anti-Assad fighters into the Syrian military. Everyone wins, except ISIS and Iran.
If Assad balks, team up with the US to eradicate ISIS- grab whatever victory you can at this point, then pull out.
Way overstated. It will not destroy Russia, though it may cause some hiccups for Putin.
We have to stop Iran and Hezbollah. If we are smart we will find a way to give Russia a graceful way out provided they take a hands off with Iran
If Trump out foxes the Russians in the Middle East, he’ll get no more credit than Reagan did for bringing down the Berlin wall. But then, Reagan wasn’t in it for the glory.
