Over 100 artists have signed an acoustic guitar for Planned Parenthood and for $10 you can buy a drawing ticket to enter to win the guitar. Among the artists to sign it are R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe, Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, Feist, Fred Armisen, Sleater-Kinney's Carrie Brownstein, Mac DeMarco, Lady Gaga, Arctic Monkey's Alex Turner, My Morning Jacket's Jim James, The National's Matt Berninger, Perfume Genius, The War on Drugs' Adam Granduciel, Arcade Fire's Richard Reed Parry, Tom Petty, Andrew Bird, Queens of the Stone Age, Ryan Adams, Katy Perry, Ty Segall, Luna's Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips, Tobias Jesso Jr., Alison Mosshart of The Kills and The Dead Weather, Best Coast, Mark Ronson, Ted Leo, Interpol's Daniel Kessler, Nancy Sinatra, Gus Van Sant, and many others. I recognized all of 5 names on the list. Didn’t know Nancy Sinatra was still around. Guess we know who her boots are walking all over.
I must be getting old, because I recognize very few of those names.
Stipe knows that abortion kills more black kids per capita. That makes him happy.
There aren’t more than a handful of those signatures I would want on my guitar. In fact, I would be much more interested in the guitar if it had only Tom Petty’s signature.

TP rocks, but probably saw this as a cheap way to get them off his back. While he’s a democrat, he is smart enough to abide by “shut up and sing” rather than piss off half his audience like most performers do. His lyrics are more populist than political.

Yeah, they probably could’ve just gotten a $200 Epiphone or Daisy Rock and the feeble-minded rubes who pony up their pesos for chances wouldn’t know the difference. The good news is that any competent luthier could refinish the top for a couple of hundred clams. I had to read the entire list to make sure no really good guitarists signed it. No worries in that regard.

Or anyone approaching one per cent of their stature. I also realize that I don’t see one black musician on the list. At least none that I recognize. Probably smart enough to realize that PP was founded as a negro genocide machine.
