An internal report written by French intelligence, parts of which were published in the daily newspaper Le Monde on Sunday, reveal efforts by the Mossad to develop relationships with French spies, “to the point of crossing the line of turning them into double agents.”

The audit report recommends investigating Bernard Squarcini, the head of the General Directorate for Internal Security until 2012 ...

I am always up for a spy story. This is an involvement between France, Syria and Israel. It appears that Israel and France were working together for regime change in Syria. But some of the French agents were allegedly drawn in to working for Israel, instead of with Israel. Obviously, there are some fine lines there, but it is significant that they were crossed.

One thing missing from this story, is how this situation was drawn to the attention of the French authorities. Did they simply notice it themselves? Or, did someone tell them? That someone, might be Russian or Iranian intelligence, who were spying on the spies.

I see this story as part of the recriminations between the anti-Syrian forces, now that their Damascus adventure is going sour. The Syrian govt has not fallen, and the allies against the Syrian govt are falling out with each other.

The story is big in France. As a general political drift, it will help N.F. leader Marine Le Pen. She has a sour view of Middle East adventures, and a general attitude that foreigners are not to be trusted.

Many years ago I saw an interview of Stansfield Turner, maybe on PBS but not certain.

Anyway the interviewer asked the Admiral which spy agency was the best, the CIA or the Mossad? His answer was “neither. The best in the world is British Intelligence”. It actually surprised me.

Not sure if they still are tho.

Considering the massive internal penetrations that MI5 and MI6 allowed themselves over decades (Philby, Burgess, Maclean, Blunt, et al) it is difficult to imagine how they could be "the best".... but the US had Aldrich Ames, Robert Hansen, and others....during Stansfield Turner's era, too!!! .... leaves only Mossad standing for "the best"....

Then of course there was this:

"Treachery: Betrayals, Blunders, and Cover-ups: Six Decades of Espionage Against America and Great Britain" (Chapman Pincher)

I read a book on the KGB and did a report on it when I was in grad school. Their budget was massive and the percentage of the population who worked for them was also huge.

Despite that, they had some spectacular failures in Indonesia, Mexico and South Africa tho it appears S.A. has fallen after the book was written probably Iran was a success but I don’t know for sure how much the KGB had to do with it.

They all knew Assad would not yield to the globalist call to take down Assad like Mubarrack and Gaddafi.....they new it would be one nasty war and why they supplied the Taliban, ISIS and others with military armor etc.....straight from McCains hands no less! US citizens would never agree to sending our Military ground troops there to fight this battle....but McCain wanted war...and he’s the man in front just before every conflict happening abroad....sticking his nose in and stirring the conflict.....Obama wouldn’t take the heat so good ol McCain stepped up to the plate like the water boy he is. I detest him soooo much!

They all just wanted to take down Assad and install Muslim Brotherhood just like they’ve tried in Egypt and Libia.....Assad said NO!

BTW...It’s no accident that Muslim Brotherhood is in key positions in our government.....and our national security....this coup has been going on throughout Obamas administration....the left has left any loyalty to this country or it’s citizens......it’s all about them and this damnable Globalist pus they want a seat at!

“They all just wanted to take down Assad and install Muslim Brotherhood just like they’ve tried in Egypt and Libia.....Assad said NO!”

As I’m sure you recall, ISIS arrived on the scene “out of nowhere” fully equiped and trained. Three main Middle East players wanted ISIS to take out Assad - Saudi Arabia, Israel and Turkey. The Saudis didn’t like having a Shiite leader next door who was friendly to Iran. The Saudis want to rid the area of the Shia in order to establish their Sunni Caliphate. Likewise, Israel saw Assad as a strong Arab ruler who was friendly to Iran, Israel’s number 1 perceived enemy. He had to go. For the Turks it was simply a case of taking part of the Syrian carcass and using it to keep the Kurds in check. Uncle Sam was just the go-along bitch (Lindsey, McCain etc.) doing what very powerful Lobbies were demanding.

It’s all playing the marks.....Syria was ‘marked’ for the next in line to topple the leadership after Assad refused to play in the Globalist game.....that of installing Muslim Brotherhood in Middle EAstern NAtions whose leaderships were not co-operating with the Global Plan....

The Muslim Brotherhood are the ONLY representation throughout middle eastern states and able to work with the Globalists...and which Western Governments falsely believe they can control..... However under that assumption that they can control them it’s an orchestrated effort , and understood that the Middle Eastern nations must come under the Global Umbrella.....they want the oil revenues and resources under the Global umbrella....thus Opec was created....

This isn’t about who is a good leader and who isn’t...it’s about who is going to assume leadership among the Middle East nations who will cooperate with the global agenda and who isn’t cooperating.....

death and destruction be damned....”the end justifies the means”....

....and btw..Israel was not at all for toppling Assad....unfortunately the alliance with the USA put them in position to assist if asked no matter how reluctantly....further...Israel had a right to keep the Syrian battle off their border.....

The Shia Sunni tit for tat is just a matter of how the Global leaders use that division of Islam as they are all to familiar with what that is about sufficient to play both sides.......and that depends on how much wool they think they can pull over the middle east leaders eyes.

There’s an old saying about playing fire....and we’re certainly been setting the world up for those flames.

Check out the “Yinon Plan”. Israel’s policy has always been to take out any strong Arab leader that could pose a threat to their perceived security needs. Divide and Conquer. Especially one that is friendly to Iran.
Israel has actively been involved in fighting along Syria’s Southern border. They have given aid and comfort to the “rebels” (i.e. Salafist Jihadis) fighting against the Assad Regime.

Not correct. Israel has been hitting selective targets in the Golan Heights region and along Syria’s Southern Border where Hezbollah has been building terrorist camps for infiltrating northern Israel.

They have also hit Syrian military build-ups that are aimed at Israel, not the rebels.

Just thinning the herd of threats against them.

My editor’s son was killed fighting Hezbollah up in the border region so I don’t care how many Hezies the Israelis kill, nor how they do it. Just wish they would bring back napalm. Will take out caves, tunnels, bunkers and command posts/training centers in one splash.

I am not convinced that Israel was working for regime change in Syria. I could be wrong, but it seems to me they are much better off with the devil they know in Assad who at least can be bargained with, can be reasoned with, and has control over what happens on his soil - as opposed to having another Lebanon or Gaza type front to deal with where dozens of different militias do whatever they want, answer to no one and pay no price for their actions. Israel benefits from stability with Egypt and with Jordan and I would think would want the same with Syria. Regime change in Syria seems to me like a bad idea for Israel in all but the narrowest of circumstances e.g. a military coup that maintains some level of detente and asserts control over non-state actors on its soil.

Like I wrote above, I’m not convinced Israel wanted Assad removed. I don’t see how they benefit from it. Perhaps I am wrong, or perhaps they tried to play both sides against the middle.

Of note, Israel and Russian ties has warmed up a bit over Obama’s term. Also of note, the Israeli natural gas find and the pipeline they are building into Europe is going to put a dent into Russian’s near monopoly in supplying gas to Europe. Anyway, in my opinion Israel wants stability over chaos and while no doubt Syria and Iran supply Hezbullah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza, those kinds of militias do not exist in Syria and attacks do not come from Syria because unlike Hamas and Hezbullah Assad does have things to lose. So he goes along with the proxy war, leaving Israel no pretext to attack Syria. But if he is removed, then a 3rd wild front could be opened and I don’t see Israel gaining a thing from that.

Obama and Clinton, I really have no clue what they were up to there in Syria. Obama flipped flopped so many times, and I suppose Clinton was too busy plotting how she would cinch the nomination and collecting cash to keep an eye on Syria... and then surprise! Russian troops are invited in. Totally derelict in their duties - and after the fact the Democrats suddenly want conflict with Russia over their embarrassment in Syria.

“They have also hit Syrian military build-ups that are aimed at Israel, not the rebels.”

Assad may be many things, but he is a crafty survivor. He is engaged in a life and death struggle with Saudi financed Salafists. He is not going to waste resources on a military build-up to confront Israel. But, it seems every time he gets the upper hand against the Salafists in Southern Syria, the IAF bombs him with the excuse being that Hezbollah is getting arms.

“I’m not convinced Israel wanted Assad removed. I don’t see how they benefit from it”.
It’s all about priorities. Israel has made it clear that Shia Iran is their greatest existential enemy. Shia Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon is number two. The Shiite Assad is friendly with Iran and has direct alliances with Hezbollah in fighting the Sunni Salafists in Southern Syria.
In my opinion, this makes him a marked man as far as Israel is concerned.

as said...Israel will do what they’re asked by us....

I tend to believe it’s the other way around. The U.S. will do what the LOBBY asks.
