Check out the “Yinon Plan”. Israel’s policy has always been to take out any strong Arab leader that could pose a threat to their perceived security needs. Divide and Conquer. Especially one that is friendly to Iran.
Israel has actively been involved in fighting along Syria’s Southern border. They have given aid and comfort to the “rebels” (i.e. Salafist Jihadis) fighting against the Assad Regime.
Not correct. Israel has been hitting selective targets in the Golan Heights region and along Syria’s Southern Border where Hezbollah has been building terrorist camps for infiltrating northern Israel.
They have also hit Syrian military build-ups that are aimed at Israel, not the rebels.
Just thinning the herd of threats against them.
My editor’s son was killed fighting Hezbollah up in the border region so I don’t care how many Hezies the Israelis kill, nor how they do it. Just wish they would bring back napalm. Will take out caves, tunnels, bunkers and command posts/training centers in one splash.

Your assuming that Assad was a strong leader. Baby eye-doc Assad was an ethnic minority leader ina country with a collapsing economy kept alive by plundering Lebanon, and aid from Russia and Iran. Assad's major foreign influence came from hosting and arming both Iraqi Sunni Baathists and Al Qaeda in Iraq (ie the people who became ISIL) to kill Americans and keep Iraq in shambles and open to Iranian control. Syria was no threat to Israel except for having a WMD program and passing weapons onto Hezbullah. Israel was perfectly capable of stopping both without a Syrian Civil War.
The Syrian civil war, like the Obama/Eurabia Muslim Brotherhood Spring offensive was a disaster for Israel and could only every be one. If the Sunnis won, then Israel's north would be threatened, and they would be marching on Amman to take Jordan and move into the West Bank. (Remember, ISIL was already working with Islamists in the Sinai, who attacked Israel,Egypt, and Jordan.) Worse case would be a Russia-Backed and better armed Syria and Hizbullah. We know have split the difference.
None of this was done for or by Israel. And no, taking in Druze refugees, and treating injured civilians (and unarmed former Jihadis pretending to be civilians) doesn't change this.
Israel has attacked Syrian WMD facilities, long range anti-ship missiles that could sink Israeli ships in Israeli waters, and weapons going to Hizbullah. They have also struck air defenses to allow this. But they have done nothing to the Baathist regime itself.
