McConnell declines federal investigation into voter fraud

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Sunday declined to say he would support a federal investigation — and thus the spending of taxpayer money — into President Trump's claims of massive voter fraud in the 2016 presidential election.

The Kentucky Republican said that he does believe in voter fraud, but does not believe as Trump does that 3 to 5 million people illegally voted in the election.

"Election fraud does occur," McConnell said on CNN's "State of the Union," adding that "there's no evidence that occurred in such a significant number that it would have changed the presidential election."

In a new interview, Trump told Fox News's Bill O'Reilly that "a bad situation" still exists regarding voter fraud. The president has threatened to launch a "major investigation" into voter fraud, but the White House has yet to announce such an effort.

"I don't think we ought to spend any federal money investigating that. I think the states can take a look at this issue. Many of them have tried to tighten their voter rolls, tried to purge people who are dead," McConnell said Sunday.

There has been no legitimate evidence of the large-scale voter fraud claimed by Trump.

Yet Mr. McConnell, IIRC, engineered over $4.3 billion of set-aside (PORK!) goodies for Kentucky prior to his last re-election campaign.

3 to 5 million or 800,000. WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?

I think taxpayers would rather PAY to clean up vote fraud then spend money on their ridiculous grants, porks, vacations, pensions, security.......

He’s gone asap!

“Many of [the states]...tried to purge people who are dead.”

If they’re dead, they’re not people.

The whole Washington establishment “professional politician” elite are turning inward to try and protect their cushy lifestyles against the American people and the sovereignty of our country...

I hope after Trump gets his cabinet set and the Supreme Court pick in, he will unleash the dogs on all this BS!!!!!

We seriously need to retire and replace McConnell. Incredible he openly undermines President Trump. Too many Never Trumpers in Congress. Worst is the so-called leadership.

McConnell had better follow through on his commitment to confirm all of the President’s appointments. After that, he will rethink hs misinformed vote fraud view as the ongoing private investigations reveal the President is right.

Then McConnell will have to fund vote reform.
