That is checkig guns. Some states allow guns. Outside security.
The kneejerk reaction will be to ban all firearms in checked baggage.
Whatever they were, there’s a good chance there will be changes on the horizon (unless Trump puts his foot down).
No reason why you can’t just post the rules. They’re not copyrighted or anything.
This isn’t rocket science. Anyone can pull up, get out of the car, walk in an airport and open fire. And they can do it at any other place where people gather. He just happened to choose this particular airport in this city for some reason.
Maybe he was angry about a past event the last time he visited Ft. Lauderdale or passed through the airport. Maybe he was convinced by an ISISI video to choose FLL airport -specifically as his target.
With the amount of rounds he used, Santiago could have went to the mall, movies, park, festival, McDs, or any number of places and killed the same number if not more back in Alaska or Phoenix or LA or NJ.
Airports, particularly that one, are loaded with armed LEO both local and federal. He probably expected to get shot and is shocked that he didn’t. He appears to have had no getaway plan. What was his plan, hail a cab if not suicide?
The parking facility and all roads in and out of that airport are loaded with cameras and cops. Within seconds, all the roads are closed. No one was going in or out. He made no attempts to exit, that we know of.
This was a mass-murder-terrorism-suicide-by-cop act. As a military guy, he might have seen this atmosphere as a challenge. We may never know the truth.
Was listening to Fox news today as they reported this story. Of course they had to bring on some ex cops, both from New York. They both mentioned HR 218 and how it now allowed people to check guns in baggage like it was a new thing. Both reporters agreed with them. HR 218 refers to current and retired LEOs carrying concealed weapons. I wish that Fox would learn that California or New York cops know as much about gun laws as I know about the workings at the event horizon of a black hole. I would love to be able to call in and point out just how ignorant or how big a liar these guys are while they are on air.
I’ve transported a handgun in checked baggage. My CCW was valid on both ends of the trip. Gun has to be unloaded in locked case in one bag, and ammo in separate bag. Did it many times.
Business Insider is a leftist site that routinely gets things wrong.
Dozens Wounded? Seems like there were eight.
and it is illegal for the TSA to open the gun case and/or touch the gun. “TSA” locks should not be used.
It’s not about guns. It’s about insane maniacs, or jihadis.
I don't think they do it like that any more.
75 caliber ? that's a dammed pumpkin slinger!!!
Of course the basic TSA rules must be followed but more importantly you need to check with your airline regarding their rules. Its been a while for me but NO airline allows curbside baggage check-in for baggage with weapons.
I like Southwest Airlines and they were always polite but they did ensure in a secured area that your weapon and ammo were properly secured. I’ve read of nightmares checking weapons on other airlines.
