Welcome to the Family, Hilary Duff(shootin' guns!)

For years Hollywood has painted gun owners as unhinged, violent, white men from the South (not that there’s anything wrong with being a white guy from the South). It’s a hypocritical stance, considering these same highly paid actors use guns irresponsibly and violently in their films while condemning those of us who practice real firearms safety and education. The good news is, this narrative is changing.

This pretty bugger and I at the gun range early this morn @mrslisao youre a damn good shot,” Duff, clad in a fashionable camouflage vest, posted about her weekend.

Between the 2 social media platforms, Duff has a whopping 7 million followers, giving extensive reach to the idea that target shooting is a fun, educational hobby that can be enjoyed by anyone.

Lose the darn ear protection when you shoot. Cripes.

Get used to the sound, because if you need to shoot for a real purpose, you wont be using ear protection.

If they’re at a regulated range, they have no choice but to use hearing protection. Besides, most people are indoors when they use a firearm for protection and there is simply no way to “Get used to” that sound at an indoor range without damaging your hearing.

Worst advice I've seen today. Soon you'll be needing a pair of these.

Big difference to your ears between shooting 200 rounds at the range, and shooting 5 or 10 rounds in self-defense. Unless you’re in a battlefield situation, you’ll never be shooting the volume of ammo you shoot at the range in a defensive situation.

I’d like to limit my exposure to loud sounds as much as possible. My ability to maintain my perception of sound plays an important part in the trade I work in. If it can be helped, why not.

I know that, but I like many I know do NOT shoot at “regulated” ranges.

I don’t like shooting where it’s regulated. Just like only one of my firearms is registered and has a serial number - the others are not and do not but are fully legal.

Not me, buddy. There'll be enough if you have to.

Shooting big guns, even once, without protection will harm you forever. Wait until you're 75 and have lost the upper frequencies. It gets tiring having to say, " would you say that again, please? I don't hear well." And I qualified Expert on Rifle, Caarbine, B. A. R., and Mortar.

Anyone who listens to your counsel is a fool.

Foolish advice. The pressure waves off high caliber weapons repeatedly going off near the ears isn’t at all good for long term hearing. Even with ear muffling, I can STILL feel the blast of someone in the next lane shooting a high caliber weapon just a little bit past the line.

The effects are lessened with extended hands (away from the ear) or from rifles where the muzzles are away from the ears, but it doesn’t take a genius to remember that sound and there is no need to keep subjecting oneself to it.

Not everybody lives in the sticks. Some of us live in the cities where an indoor range is within a half hours or hours drive, while an unregulated range may be hours away. I am not going to make shooting an all day proposition just because I don’t have the benefit of shooting off my back porch or have a public range without a range master.

Becoming deaf in fairly short order isn’t a desirable thing. Cover your ears.

Disagree. People need to fire their pistol at least once without hearing protection so they won’t be startled into inaction when they first use it, or someone near them does.

So, you’re saying “All but ONE of your firearms doesn’t have a serial number?”
