JFK's assassination seems like yesterday

THREE SHOTS FIRED AT PRESIDENT KENNEDY'S MOTORCADE TODAY IN DOWNTOWN DALLAS.

That was the United Press International bulletin that came over the clattering teletype machine. It was early afternoon Friday, Nov. 22, 1963 -- 53 years ago today.

I looked at the bulletin in shock. I turned to tell someone, but there was no one in sight. I was at the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston. I was a young reporter for the Boston Herald Traveler checking out the Canadian ambassador to the United States who was speaking at a luncheon of bankers and financie

It sounds like I’m just a few months older than you. I remember all of the assassinations of MLK, RFK, Wallace getting shot, and the Chicago Democratic Convention riots and Kent State National Guard shooting.

I was in a 6th grade spring camp when J. Edgar Hoover died. Then there was the coverage of plane crashes of sports teams and celebrities like Lynyrd Skynrd and Jim Croce.

My mom took a polaroid of the TV when Armstrong first stepped on the moon.

Then there were the seemingly endless Watergate hearings (remember we only had network TV), then there was the Vietnam War on TV every night. For those young folks here this was full graphic warfare on every news channel every night followed by the scrolling list of names of fallen warriors.

Then Elvis died and I was in HS working at a brand new Sears store that was preparing for the grand opening.

Oh good grief! Are they still around??
OT: True story. I went with friends to a DK show in San Fran, and while I was trapped in the “mosh pit” some guy jumped off the stage, cartwheeled a couple times, and I got a steel-toed boot to the bridge of my nose. Phew.

So I’m leaning on the bar, trying to recover. A woman is next to me, we’re both watching the crowd.
A guy walks by in black leather, metal stuff jangling all over, facial tattoos and piercings, and he’s got a 7 foot high neon green Mohawk.
The woman turns to me, deadpans, “Jeez! Some of these kids are downright scary!”
The woman was Grace Slick. LOL.

“He didn’t set out to do anything to damage or destroy the United States...”

The Kennedys were staunchly anti-Communist. Bobby rose to fame as Joe McCarthy’s sidekick, a fact conveniently disregarded by the Democrat revisionists of today.
Now the Democrat Party is rotten with Communists, Muslims, and anyone who is virulently anti-American.

Some of us are still holding out for justice in this case.

Please explain, I don’t know what you mean. Thanks.

Full disclosure: I love conspiracy theories because I don’t believe much that is important or historical is left to chance when powerful people can make things happen.

My pick, the mafia because Joe Kennedy stroked out and didn’t get a chance to call the boys off the mafia’s back when he told Rosselli he would at Christmas time.

I used to buy into the conspiracy theory books, they were all very entertaining. But then I read the landmark book, “Case Closed” by Gerald Posner. This is a meticulously researched study of ALL the evidence/photos/testimonies related to the Kennedy assassination. Every mild and wild allegation(second shooter, grassy knoll, puff of smoke behind a fences, “magic bullet”, high level conspiracy theories, etc.) is thoroughly investigated; all are thoroughly, convincingly debunked. Vincent Bugliosi and Bill O’Reilly subsequently wrote books based on well-researched facts and evidence, and they came to the same conclusion as Posner.

LHO acted alone, period. Were there minor cover-ups by an embarrassed Secret Service, Dallas Police Department, etc? Of course!!! There were some inexcusable screw-ups that happened, and nobody wanted fingers pointing at their little piece of turf. But there was absolutely positively no over-arching conspiracy regarding the Soviet Union, Cuba, the Mafia, Lyndon Johnson, the CIA, the east coast telephone system, etc. Those kinds of conspiracies exist in the troubled minds of people like Oliver Stone or anyone trying to make a buck off the latest version/twist of the “Kennedy Assassination conspiracy”

Did you know there are over two thousand books written on the subject? Have you ever gone to Dealey Plaza and seen the three-ring circus of carney barkers in their little booths, pushing their conspiracy pamphlets, paperback books, “tours”,fake props, etc.? There is a lot of money tied up in the conspiracy theory business. This lucrative business is on vulgar obvious display on the sidewalks of Dealey Plaza.

Since “Case Closed” there have been other well-researched books which came to the same conclusion—authors Vincent Bugliosi and Bill O’Reilly have written such books.

It’s hard to accept that an erratic, mentally unstable loser, a nobody, took a rifle and with three shots changed the course of history. It’s hard to accept, but that’s what happened.

The case should be reopened and it will be soon very clear that other people than Lee Oswald are involved and responsible for this crime.

There’s hours and hours of reading and videos available on the Internet. If you really are interested I suggest you get comfy because it’s very interesting and compelling.

Before I read “Case Closed” I must have read dozens of conspiracy books, watched every TV show and movie on the subject that came along.

Then I read “Case Closed.” It is unlike any other conspiracy book I’d ever read. It is meticulously, thoroughly researched. Every wild claim is run to ground with facts and the claims are nothingburgers. After I read the book, my husband poo-pooed the idea that LHO acted alone. Then I twisted his arm and got him to read the book. Case closed, it’s definitive, LHO acted alone.

Most of what you read debunks specific facts but not the ultimate conclusion. How do you debunk a conspiracy theory like the one about the mafia and LBJ. The people privy to those actions are long gone and not too many witnesses in the first place. Giancana and Roselli are not exactly singing birds. But Bonanno claimed the mafia killed hm. So yeah its hearsay.

But also is motive and opportunity. Both the mafia and LBJ had motive and the power to pull it oof.

The advantage of having is apathy is you set it up to look like the patsy did it.

So, o, I don’t believe eat case is closed, just more weight one way or the other.

Yes.... I remember all of those.

I also remember watching the 1972 Republican Convention... hours upon hours of speeches.

Laugh-In! Red Skelton... always funny.

Never forget the scenes of helicopters leaving Saigon.

Joe Namath wearing a boa, and beating the Colts.

We’ve lived in interesting times.

“”He didn’t set out to do anything to damage or destroy the United States””

My sentence reads like I thought he may have ENDED up damaging or destroying the U. S. To the contrary, I meant to say - UNLIKE OTHERS IN THAT OFFICE - not naming names!

Ann Coulter’s book on the real Joe McCarthy was excellent but of course, like anything that gets to the nitty gritty of U. S. politics, the people who needed/need to read it never will.

Isn’t it ironic that the dems are now having a fit that Trump perhaps will make friends with Putin? They’ve tried for years to make this country as communist as the old USSR and never had a problem with THAT but now?

I don’t think these people are ever going to let go and they will be doing as much or more damage as obozo has done for his nearly 8 years. The scenes of protesters in our streets remind me of some scenes from Dr. Zhivago. Mighty uncomfortable but of course, they’re incapable of understanding the irony.

We have much to be thankful for on Thursday - not least of which - HILLARY will not be going to the WH and Trump will be naming (probably) several people to the U. S. Supreme Court...Thank you, Lord!

I personally believe that Castro was behind the JFK assassination. Maybe as simple as telling Oswald that he wished he would do it. There is also a chance that the mob did it but Castro is the obvious choice.

I do agree that Oswald took the action by himself. The Cubans/Communists could have simply told him to buy a scoped high powered rifle and left it up to LHO to do the rest.

No way for me to prove it of course, just my belief.
