Trump Releases His Plan for 2nd Amendment… Leaves Millions Furious
Conservative Tribune ^

Posted on 11/19/2016 10:55:16 AM PST by Enlightened1

One common criticism of billionaire businessman and President-elect Donald Trump is that he far too often speaks in vague generalities and rarely offers specifics about where he stands on the issues.

That is no longer the case, at least regarding his stance on gun rights and the Second Amendment, after Trump released his official policy position on his campaign website.

“The Second Amendment to our Constitution is clear. The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed upon. Period,” the position paper began.

Trump went on to explain that the right to keep and bear arms is a right that pre-exists both the government and the Constitution, noting that government didn’t create the right, nor can it take it away.

He also rightly denoted the Second Amendment as “America’s first freedom,” pointing out that it helps protect all of the other rights we hold dear.

In order to protect and defend that right, Trump proposed tougher enforcement of laws that are already on the books, rather than adding new gun control laws.

Citing a successful program in Richmond, Virginia, that sentenced gun criminals to mandatory minimum five-year sentences in federal prison, Trump noted that crime rates will fall dramatically when criminals are taken off the streets for lengthy periods of time.

Trump also proposed strengthening and expanding laws allowing law-abiding gun owners to defend themselves from criminals using their own guns, without fear of repercussion from the government.

"Sounds like plain, ole common sense."

Plain ole common sense is in VERY short supply among the progressive class.

If these statements indicate how Trump will govern on the Second Amendment, it is the best news on Trump (for me) that I have heard yet. The RKBA is an almost totally error-free litmus test for political "right-thinking".

Gun and magazine bans - the government has no business dictating what types of firearms good, honest people are allowed to own

Well, damn. Trump just killed gun sales as us prospective buyers hang on to our money and salivate, thinking of all the cool stuff, currently restricted, that we might soon be able to purchase!

It would take Congressional action, so we’ll see...

It might be doable via executive order.

For instance, could he cut off law enforcement funding if states did not agree? I think that would bring most states to their knees in short order.

Of course, the downside is that it could be reversed by the next President. But, we would at least have four or hopefully eight years of demonstrating that widespread carry does not lead to blood in the streets, and actually improves public safety. And, we could work for a legislative solution in that time.

Imagine having a president who keeps the promises he made during the primaries and general electionns?

This will take some getting used to...

All good but not enough.

I want the FBI Civil Rights Division to start going after state and local governments for violating the 2nd amendment rights of all US citizens.

For too long the FBI focused exclusively on race based amendments at the exclusion of all the other rights in the constitution.

Need to take Trump’s constitutional common sense a bit further. Mandatory, age appropriate, fire arms training in all public schools, K-12. No travel by public transportation with out presentation of firearm and certificate of proficiency. Exceptions for the infirm, incompetent and prohibited.

Heck build more prisons in the middle of Death Valley. As a nation even violent offenders serve only a portion of their sentences.

I made a career out of studying them, when I had to fight parole hearings to keep my 16 yr old son’s sociopathic killer in prison. 6 parole hearings. Jeremy was 16 by the calendar, but his body was that of a 12 yr old, he was ambushed and beaten to death buy this sociopath less than a block from coming home from school, with a 2 ft section of fence post. Sociopath drug his friends to the scene, threatened to kill them if they told from Jail. They caught him running from the scene after he was pointed out by one of the ones he drug there. Ran, Cops caught him. RINO AG plead him down from M1 to M2 20 yrs, first parole hearing after it took 2 yrs for a plea deal was just 10 months later, 5 more followed. I used gov’t stats to keep the SOB in prison every day until he maxed out his ‘good behavior’ time.

Stats lie.

Thanks.

In Californicator land, we will need help from Trump’s new AG to stop this liberal state from killing our second amendment rights.

“and you can make room in prison by releasing ALL low level pot offenders.”

How many “low level” marijuana possession felons are there in prison? Single docket, first offense, possession only. (Would love to get a peak at your standards for defining, “low level” as well.)

Please explain the difference between a misdemeanor and a felony (without looking it up) and elaborate on the conditions of probation for first-time marijuana possession users at both the general, state level and for the Federal level.

By the time you’re done, you will understand why I get confused when I read comments about releasing the imaginary thousands (millions??) of non-violent, FOA, <1oz, marijuana users “languishing in State and/or Federal prison - for years on end.”

What good does it do if the right is strengthen by Federal law and the States do what they damn well please. Now in California, one cannot buy ammunition without their permission. Background checks are a joke. I could go on and on but what the hell is the use. Nothing will change.
