Trump's Bizarre Winning Formula
Townhall.com ^ | November 17, 2016 | Victor Davis Hanson

The Democratic Party handed Donald Trump a rare opportunity to make radical changes to the electoral map that could last for years to come.

First, the Democrats gave Trump a great gift by completing the ongoing radicalization of their party under President Obama. After 2008, it was no longer a party of the working and middle classes, but a lopsided political pyramid.

On top were the cynical elites who turned up in the WikiLeaks John Podesta email trove: self-important media members, Ivy League grandees, Silicon Valley billionaires, Wall Street plutocrats and coastal corridor snobs. They talk left-wing but live royally. They court minorities to vote in lockstep, then deride them in private. The vast lower tier of the party comprises government employees, the poor, minorities, and the millions dependent on state and federal assistance. The Democrats in between were ignored, and so they kept fleeing the party. Look at the red/blue map of the election. Democratic strength retreated to the inner cities and the rich coastal suburbs.

The Democrats also, in suicidal fashion, stoked racial chauvinism, or the notion that one's tribe should transcend all other affiliations. After pandering to various minority groups, Hillary Clinton apparently believed that they suddenly would forget her emphasis on race and ethnicity to vote for her, a 69-year-old white multimillionaire.

But the Democrats learned a bitter lesson in 2016: Obama's left-wing, rich/poor ideological agendas do not appeal to most of the country. Despite a hard progressive agenda, Obama was able to win two terms by relying on racial and ethnic solidarity, earning record numbers of Latino and black votes.

Bizarre?

How bizarre, how bizarre?

Some still don't "get it", and I suppose they never will.

All the “money” it has taken in prior Presidential Elections has been primarily for all the people mentioned as the top part of the pyramid in this article and others like politicians, parties, big media and journalists.

Not much really got to or went to concerns of the people. Polls, focus polls, what lie can I tell that will get more votes.

They never considered what was best for drive by America? They never spoke in plain language, and they never told the truth. Trump’s ‘bizarre’ formula was to tell the truth to the people. Imagine that.

Nothing bizarre about it.

Killary made a few HUGE mistakes....No. 1 was telling Pa that coal would be totally out of business. Plenty of Pa people remember when dad and grandpa worked in the mines and steel drove another part of Pa.

No. 2 was that Trump people were deplorables.

There were no assets around her....Bubba was useless....Plugs was hopeless....and the Clinton Foundation was pretty much a political "Mafia". Banks and foreign powers don't vote...deplorables do.

“drive by America”

I don’t think the term, “drive by”, applies to everyday Americans.

The phrase originated from the gangster tactic of shooting people from a moving car, as in, ‘he was killed in a drive by shooting.’

The “electoral vote” was determined on Nov. 8th, the date of the election. Trump won! There should be NO reversing a vote one month later once all counting be completed.

You associate it with gangster movies....I think of it as the ground equivalent of “fly-over” country. But “drive by” isn’t just fly-over country....it’s all those places in between them and not in the big urban areas that are only concerned with themselves.

“it was no longer a party of the working and middle classes, but a lopsided political pyramid.”

Sounds like the GOP before Trump showed up

Snort chuckle snicker snicker snicker... true in a way. Donald hopped on that elephant, cracked his whip, and rode it like a cowboy.

I was litening to FOX on my morning drive and the host was interviewing the Ohio Congressman who wants to unseat Pelosi.

He said the promise of retraining workers in high tech jobs doesn’t appeal to voters who want to operate backhoes and sling concrete. The Dems need to refocus on people who take their shower when the get home at night, not those who shower in the morning before they go to work.

This guy gets it.

“You associate it with gangster movies.”

No, not gangster movies - real gangsters, such as Bloods and Crips.

I went to high school in the town where those gangs were born, and lost more than one acquaintance to drive by shootings.

‘Drive by’ isn’t just a catch-all term. It has a precise meaning.

And he could be right

No VDH, he is right. Even more than 1992, it is the economy stupid, for many Americans trying to raise their families.

She sure hoped to lull Democrats into continuing to accept the screw job that had been started by Barack Obama.
