NEW YORK (AP) -- For the combatants in America's long-running culture wars, the triumph of Donald Trump and congressional Republicans was stunning - sparking elation on one side, deep dismay on the other.
Advocates of LGBT rights and abortion rights now fear setbacks instead of further gains. But the outcome emboldened the anti-abortion movement and breathed new life into the religious right's campaign for broad exemptions from same-sex marriage and other laws.
Kelly Shackelford, head of First Liberty Institute, a legal group that specializes in religious freedom cases, said that, for his cause, the environment will transform from "brutal" under the Obama administration to friendly given GOP control of both Congress and the White House. His clients include two Christian bakers in Oregon who were fined for refusing to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding.
"Many of us who fight for religious freedom have felt in the last four or even eight years there was a lot of overreaching that was wrong," said Shackelford, who was among hundreds of religious conservatives who met with Trump last June. "To have someone who is president-elect, who says I'm going to put an end to this ... we're going to go back to a country built on religious freedom. That makes us very hopeful."
Among the election's repercussions will be a renewed campaign, in state legislatures and in Congress, to pass tough anti-abortion legislation. Religious conservatives will press for far-reaching conscience protections and a repeal of regulations they said violated their religious liberty. And the push to let transgender students use the bathroom of their choice at school, strongly backed by President Barack Obama, may wither in the face of GOP resistance.

I just got back from diner with mother and wife.
Had to change booth because the white trash behind us were bashing Trump, Conway, praising hillary, saying election was rigged, AND I WAS ABOUT TO SNAP.
Bad Temper. Two older women and a guy in his 30s. Mid Island’s always been a white trash neighborhood out here on staten island.
The women kept giving me nasty looks :), but the guy was is his own world.
Thank God, cause if we made eye contact and got into it, he would have pummeled this fat middle ager!!! :)
There is no reason for the majority to accept the perversion of the minority. To have the government force these issues on the majority is tyranny.
My main concern through out the election process these 18 months was answered by Donald J. Trump”s victory.

It’s a damn shame that the far left “media” is trying to say that the NC governor’s race came down to a man’s right to piss in the ladies restroom.
Notice how every story from MSM is framed from the feelings of the losers, and not from those who voted for change. When Obama won they could care less about how the conservatives were feeling. It was basically we won, you lost.

Trump said little about both these topics during the campaign. There is no reason to think big changes are coming, just the tightening up of the SCOTUS.
These articles are specifically to inflame the protesters and provide them talking points.
The murder of unborns and state encouragement of sexual deviance MUST be rolled back if we’re to regain any sense of sanity.

Young women think Trump will deny them birth control by banning them, where it has been legal and available for decades...

Everything was fine with abortion and homo rights until it was forced upon the entire country. I don't care if California or Masshole wants to teach their kids homo propaganda - just stay the Hell away from my state with it!
