~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland

Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), the Army's oldest active proving ground, is one of the world's foremost research, development, testing, and training facilities for military weapons and equipment. It is bounded by the Susquehanna and Gunpowder Rivers, the Chesapeake Bay, and the AMTRAK Railroad.

The Installation occupies more than 72,500 acres in Harford County. Notable for its convergence of talents and abilities, APG encompasses more than 60 different tenant activities representing every facet of technology.

Aberdeen Proving Ground is home to 9 major commands and supports 70 tenants, 20 satellite and 17 private activities.  The installation provides facilities to perform research, development, testing and evaluation of Army materiel. Facilities include laboratories for research investigations, state-of-the-art ranges, engineering test courses for wheeled and tracked vehicles and a wide variety of research.

The installation also supports a wide variety of training, including mechanical maintenance, health promotion and preventive medicine, chemical and biological defense, and chemical casualty care, chemical demilitarization.  APG also is host National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve operations and training.

APG’s facilities include nearly 15 million square feet of building space in more than 2,000 buildings (including offices, administrative and training facilities, and warehouses, barracks and family housing). There are more than 40 miles of track, nearly 200 firing positions, 8 medical research laboratories, 10 chemical laboratories, 2 physics laboratories, 5 human engineering laboratories, a materials research laboratory as well as Phillips Army Airfield and Weide Army Aviation Support Facility.

Learn More About Aberdeen Proving Ground HERE!

The United States Army Ordnance Museum at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, has one of the world's leading collections of military ordnance, ranging from small arms to 240 large armored vehicles, tanks and artillery pieces, some of the last survivors of their type.

The United States Army Ordnance Museum was established in 1919 to exhibit and preserve captured enemy materiel, and also certain United States ordnance materiel which had been shipped to Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., for testing purposes. This exhibit served as a reservoir of information for the systematic study of various types of equipment which is always an important part of the program in the design of new weapons.

Good morning, Everyone.

Good morning to our

Military, our Allies, and their families.

Thank you, Lauren, for preparing the
Canteen for today’s activities.

This is practically in my backyard, if
I had a huge backyard, that is. LOL

Well, my first day at the gym went well.
I paced myself so not to over-work the tired, old muscles.
They are only a little stiff this morning.
Tomorrow, after the gym,
I will be heading to my parents place, so
won't be at the Canteen at all.

Well, either fotki or Safari fixed my graphics problem.

For now, I need to catch up on pings and news.

Please stay.
Grab a cup of joe or tasty tea.
Chat with the military and/or the family they left behind.

The FR Canteen is

Come on in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, tea,
pancakes, conversation,
silliness,
and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM ~ DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above Honoring those who have served before.

Good morning EG ((HUGS))

All is well. Although, I do need to shelve some projects until next year as I am way too busy for a retired person.

Howz it out your way? Storms? Cold?

Ok. Eyes are open...now what?
The brain doesn't seem to be in gear!
To many early mornings make a sleepy night owl!
I think I'm gonna sleep in a bit before starting my road trip! LOL!
Hear that, lauren? :)
Good luck at the gym, Beachy.
You're tougher than I am!
All y'all have a Terrific Tuesday!
((((hugs))))

Well, we're looking at storms later today. We're going to play things by ear and we will either do the East side of Comanche Lake or or ride out in the country later today.

((HUGS))Good morning, LUV W. How's it going?

Aberdeen also has a fantastic museum. With the empty casing of a massive “Earthquake Bomb” in front of the museum’s main entrance. And an enormous 1940s ENIAC computer designed to supply elevation data for the ballistic trajectory of artillery shells from 105mm to 16 inch!

And whose basic “Number Crunching” was dome by women mathematicians.

Good morning JD ((HUGS))

Thanks for that bit of information. And I seem to remember the Number Crunching women thing.

Have a great day

Am I the only one reading this site who spent time at Aberdeen Proving Grounds?

Probably! A few of us have been through there on TDY or other business; and my former company has a large building there.

I'm at Ft. Huachuca now as a contractor, supporting a remote element of an APG tenant.
