States that refuse to help resettle Syrian refugees are guilty of illegal discrimination, a federal appeals court ruled Monday, delivering a judicial rebuke to GOP vice presidential nominee Mike Pence, who as Indianas governor had tried to halt Syrian resettlement.
Judge Richard Posner, writing for the three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, said theres no evidence that Syrians are more dangerous, and he said even if they are, allowing Indiana to refuse to resettle them would only foist the problem onto neighboring states.
Federal law does not allow a governor to deport to other states immigrants he deems dangerous, Judge Posner wrote, saying the governor should instead report his fears to federal bureaucrats for redress.

I thought they voted several months back to block further syrian refugees, but of course Paul Ryno and Mitch “0bama’s Bitch” could’ve backed off when their master showed his displeasure.
And so is POSner and his ilk.
‘Maybe Posner just did Pence a great political favor.’
I think His Honor just gave their campaign some prime ammo.
You nailed that, right on the head.
Postpone their release in Ellis Island Style internment camps until after the election. Make public threats to divert Welfare money to accommodate Obama’s Federal mandate. Use eminent domain to seize Federal Buildings and wildlife refuges for the facility. Watch the judge loose his libtard mind.
Posner is basing his decision on evidence. What evidence would that be? Americans blown to bits? Americans shot in a mall? That kind of evidence, your Honor?
That reminds of a joke.
What do you call a lawyer with an IQ of 50?
Your Honor!
Why does anyone expect the rule of law to obtain in this country? There is more than adequate proof that we live under dictatorship.
It would also seem that there should be a coalition of governors here. Why just Pence?
If that’s what Posner really, truly wants then it would seem that FR itself would be about the best evidence scout there could be.
Jim Rob ought to shout out to Pence. This deserves at least the old college try.
Quote du jour
That statement, if true, is problematic.
I couldn’t agree more, every decent governor in the country should be following Pence’s lead.
Well, there ought to also be a coalition of governors suing in some kind of class action. If some ultra lib governor wants to welcome the problem in, that is fine for him or her, let him or her suffer the consequences. It does hit me as odd that this is ONLY Pence.
Sounds like something that Trump should follow up on.
I've never heard that --do you have a link?
I doubt it for two reasons: Posner is getting on in years, and he was appointed to the Court of Appeals by President Reagan.
The judge has made his ruling. Now let him enforce it.
Richard Posner (judge “poser”)
Texas already did or led the way....
Texas officially withdraws from refugee resettlement program
What can be done to encourage a coalition of governors to be formed here? True, some won’t want to oppose it, but those who do should be supported.
Why do we have to hear every other post about how someone has ‘misgivings about’ or ‘not a big fan of’ Trump? The better choice is a abundantly clear this go-round. Crayon in RonPaulstiltskin or Cruz if you must.
