I have noticed that sometimes small kids have to be told not to hit.

re: if the people and the peasants resist their tyrannical demands, then those dissenters must be evil and deserve death

No where is this more evident than in the Black community.

The police, the enforcers of government coercion, make tyrannical demands of people. People resist. If they resist they must be evil and they deserve death.

The mystery is why all sides are inconsistent hypocrites. Those who argue for small government cheer tyrannical actions. and those who favor big government decry the big government they create. And the peasants most oppressed by big government vote for big government.

Why are so many of us so inconsistent?

Actually, the NY Times reported that yesterday. Sad fact but true. It’s a thin line between civilization and savagery. It’s why we need ethical education for the young.

I remember a movie about the Yanamamo in a college Anthropology class. The movie did not portray them as violent.

Looks like I was fooled again...

Another underappreciated fact is that the reason nomadic peoples were and are nomadic is they quickly despoil the immediate environs of their camps. Travelers on the American plains were very evocative when writing about how one could smell an Indian village hours or even days before reaching it. The "Noble Savage" was as much a nineteenth century myth as all its other romantic twaddle.

Humans are tribal if you will. The intra tribal monogamy reduces violence and contributes to our ability to deal with the long childhoods our large brains require. On the other hand, we have more intertribal violence also related to the protection of mates and children. The noble savage is, of course, nonsense of the political and idealized society (Marxism - which ironic the most violent society we’ve devised so far and religious intertribal conflict usually represented by Islam today).

Anyhow that’s how I see it with quite a bit of current scientific support.

Savagery and barbarism are man’s natural state of being; civilization is the very thin crust over the volcano of man’s natural tendencies. Civilization is an aberration; it is unnatural.

Fact: It is very easy for man to revert back to the savage state from civilization; however, on the other hand, it is quite difficult to go from savagery to civilization.

If you read Daniel Boone’s autobiography, warring Indian tribes would burn captured enemies at the stake. He witnessed one such incident and the Indians began by taunting the warrior they were burning until they saw that the warrior didn’t make a sound of move a muscle until he died. Then they began to weep.

If humans were inherently good and peaceful,

We would have to train kids to be selfish and fight.

We don’t.

That comes natural.

We spend decades training people to get along and observe the golden rule.

Ifmpeople, were inherently good, violence and conflicts would be the exception rather than the rule. Instead they are as “rare” as abortions at a planned parenthood.

I remember my senior year in high school. It was the height of the new age nonsense and liberalism was really taking hold (1993).

One teacher asked, “raise your hands if you think people are naturally good?”

All but two hands went up.

The teacher then asked, “Raise your hands if you think people are naturally bad.”

Me and my buddy raised our hands. I guess I was ahead of the times.
