I watched and Donald did what he had to do. He jabbed at her and didn’t look to land the haymaker. I’d say by debate rules he won, not a really hammering but he won. He maintained composure, didn’t ramble too much and didn’t take the bait. More importantly, Hillary didn’t win and (or) have the knockout blow she needed. Her expectations were fairly low and you just knew the media would orgasm whatever she did over and above just being able to stand up. She to me came off as a little too polished, too wonky, too rehearsed. Overall a Hillary fail, she did not move the needle at all and her slide will continue.
I wish I could believe what Gingrich is saying, but it seems to me like spin. Clinton looked healthy and in control, though smug. Trump looked out of control and failed to take advantage of too may opportunities to exploit her weaknesses. He needs to do much better in the next two debates.
HILLARY came off as cold, condescending, diva.
TRUMP came off as caring, intelligent, down-to-earth.
Why not land the haymaker?
Saw that last night....you gotta love Newt. He does make some very good points that transcend the status quo thinking about the debate.
The 180 degree viewpoint of Newt had to be Judge Napolitano. He was brutal in his assessment. I don’t have a link to that interview last night but it was vicious.
All in all, if I’m going to be completely honest...I’d give Trump a ‘C’. I think claiming he knocked it out of the park does a disservice to him. He can do a hell of a lot better and he will in the upcoming 2 debates.
I think Trump did what he had to minimally accomplish and I don’t think the polls will reveal too much change.
The thing I liked best about Trump last night was the fact that he looked and sounded presidential. He maintained composure in what was a clear attempt and strategy by clinton to piss him off and bolster the temperament narrative. They failed at that.
The thing that was most disappointing was some hoovering softballs that Trump didn’t swing at. Not just the cyber security stuff but also when Hillary was talking about words meaning things and our allies need to know that when we say something we mean it. Ummmm, like the Syrian line in the sand Hillary???
I think Trump will crush her in debate 2.
[Clinton looked healthy]
HILLARY looked like the BOTOX poster girl. That forced smile was because she couldn’t move her face.
http://abc7.com/archive/7894949/
Plus, she looked like she was responding to a conversation with someone else other than TRUMP or the Moderator.
The result? The "Hillary won in a landslide" narrative the media had started immediately after the debate had morphed into "Both candidates did what they needed to do, no home runs, no major mistakes." by the time the morning news shows rolled around.
Well executed strategy by the Trump PR Team and it goes to show that his years of being the showman and selling himself really paid off. That is one area where he dominates...
When hilLIARy got that ‘smug’ look on her face I wanted to smakc her one...
And so did millions of other men with bitchy ex-wives...
And that stupid smile she had, drove me crazy.
What debate were you watching? Trump was not out of control. In fact, he was somewhat reserved and he also left plenty of ammo in the bag for the next debates.
If he had then you'd be saying he didn't act presidential and you'd say he can't control himself and be wringing your hands over that.
Exactly! And that condescension that Illary has shown throughout her political career and during the campaign was on full display in the debate. 80% of all communication is non-verbal and she failed big-time in that regard. It is unfortunate that many people here on FR have missed that factor.
Had Trump treated Hillary how she treated him....the media narrative this morning would be Trump’s vicious style confirms his misogyny.
I agree. In a debate, if person A makes an argument, and person B does not make a clear refutation, then person B loses the point. One point Trump clearly won was regarding the terrible burden taxes and over regulation imposes on businesses. Hillary did not clearly counter his statement. She lost that point.
[Trump looked out of contro]
FROM DRUDGE:
LESTER HOLT: THE THIRD DEBATER...
Asked Trump 6 follow-up questions, did not ask ANY of Clinton...
Interrupted Trump 41 times, Clinton 7...
‘Fact-checking’ becomes opinion journalism...
TRUMP fended off two flaming liberals and came out on top. TRUMP was in NEW YORK JUNK DOG mode. He’s a real fighter and got the facts out while doing it.
I agree. A lot of people here don't want to hear that, but it is what it is. Trump needs to do some serious prep work for the remaining debates, including mock debates with someone who won't pull any punches. There's too much at stake in this election to just go in there and wing it.

You don’t commit all your forces at the start of the battle. You work to the flanks, then as the battle reaches the tipping point, you send in the reserves to crush your opponent and finish him off.
There’s two more debates. Plenty of time to deliver the “haymaker” that will surely come.
BTW, these people who are saying Hillary “looked healthy” - Balderdash. Her voice was beginning to croak with 15 minutes to go, her painted-on “smile” was gone, her eyes were darting about, she was obviously counting the minutes to the end. After it was over, she disappeared.
This old cow has the banderilleros in her back. By the time the last debate rolls around her legs will fold under her as Trump drives the killing sword home. Figuratively speaking of course.
