First child is allowed to die by euthanasia in Belgium two years after law was passed to allow it

The first child has been euthanised in Belgium after the country adopted new rules in 2014.

The country now allows doctor-assisted death for children of all ages and today the head of the national committee for euthanasia discussed the first case.

Wim Distelmans, who chairs Belgium's Federal Control and Evaluation Committee on Euthanasia, said in an emailed statement that the first case was reported to his committee by a local doctor last week.

The underage person was reported as being critically ill but no other information was given.

Belgium legalised euthanasia in 2002, and two years ago amended the rules to permit doctor-assisted death for minors in a hopeless medical situation.

It is the only country in the world allowing euthanasia on minors of all ages. In the neighbouring Netherlands the practice is possible for children aged at least 12.

Euthanizing is NOT “allowing.”

That is so evil on so many levels that it is basically useless to start naming them.

Remember that war in Europe back in the 40s? Yeah, the Nazis won it.

Euthanized?

Call it what it is — Belgium has legalized murder.

God is not mocked. Europe will not escape the consequences of her contempt for Him.

I'll take the other side of the coin. If my family pet is in pain and there is no chance of a cure or reasonable relief for the pet, I'll have him/her put down. If there is no quality of life and nothing but pain I would do that for my pet. I would cry. I would mourn but I would do that. We treat our pets better than we do people. I would only allow euthanasia in extreme circumstances. Extreme circumstances require extreme measures. Flame away.

Oh, wonderful Belguim.

Home to the EU, no-go zones in Muslim infested cities and now legalized murder of children outside the womb.

If only America could be so advanced.

Love,
Hillary

I will tell you this Bob, after raising Cocker Spaniels for over 20 years. A dog breaks your heart 1 time. And that is when they die.

This isn’t’ the US, or any other country than Belguim.

I’m not saying that the libs aren’t salivating over the prospect of more Dr induced murder.

I’m saying it isn’t here. And I see a massive up hill fight when they dare propose it.

Very true. Very true indeed.

I keep praying for execution on Psalm 2.

A dog breaks your heart 1 time. And that is when they die.

They break your heart when they are in pain and whimpering. When they are paralyzed and will never walk again. When they are in constant pain and look to YOU for relief. When they are bewildered over what they did wrong to feel so bad. Euthanasia is a last resort. But in extreme cases it is a humane one.

Pray tell has anyone here seen a 9 year old in the last weeks of dying from cystic fibrosis?

You guys can scold and demean and condemn me all you want but in that case anything comfortable the doctors can do per a decision of the parents to speed up the inevitable and end the absolute worst suffering I’ve seen in my life visited upon anyone much less a child then fire away

Yes yes I know it’s easily abused etc etc

But there is no justifiable reason in my opinion to prolong the incredible suffering of a child who is going to die anyway in a week or two anyhow

Pleading with the parents or docs to “kill me please please” as they struggle in steady panic to breath every damn breath like breathing through a coffee stirrer

Literally pulling their hair out in clumps and tearing nails off their fingers on the sheets

Begging for mercy

Hell with high minded bullshit at that point

I can’t even think about it really without crying and old and hard

Until you’ve seen it or been close to a family it happened to

But wardaddy you know the docs will up the opiates to do the same

No they don’t they are acutely aware with a child in a hospital that they are on record

This is ain’t grandma at home sleeping or gently rattling as she fades away and the morphine eases the glide

No condemnation from these quarters. I’ve never seen a child die of that horrible disease, but your description of it is sufficient for me to side with you on this. It’s the eminently humane decision.
