The City of Chicago hit a deadly milestone over the Labor Day weekend — the 500th homicide of the year.
And with that tragic tally, the Windy City has now logged more homicides than New York City and Los Angeles combined — and is on pace to reach a homicide level not seen since the 1990s, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.
Don't blame the cops, Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said outside police headquarters Tuesday.
"It's not a police issue, it's a society issue," Johnson said after a Labor Day weekend during which 65 people were shot, 13 of them fatally. "Impoverished neighborhoods, people without hope do these kinds of things. You show me a man that doesn't have hope, I'll show you one that's willing to pick up a gun and do anything with it."
Of the 512 homicides in 2016 tallied by the Tribune, 488 fell under the jurisdiction of the Chicago Police Department, a police spokesman told NBC News.
"They're including every homicide in the city limits," Officer Jose Estrada said of the Tribune report. "Some of those are covered by other law enforcement agencies, so we don't count those."
The Chicago Police also don't count what they deem "justifiable homicides," which for example is when one person fatally shoots another in self-defense, said Estrada.

The untold story of this sad affair is the number of wounded. People seldom just walk away after being hit with a “Niner” or a Glock “foo-dey.” This means of course, we taxpayers pick up the tab for surgery/recovery/therapy and perhaps SSI. Welcome to America....

Maybe “common sense gun control” would be to make it a felony to possess a firearm if you are a black male under 30-years of age. This small infringement of a Constitutional right would be narrowly focused and designated to a specific problem. The new Clinton Supreme Court would surely not have a problem finding it OK.
Judge Roberts can find ANYTHING is Constitutional when he wants to.

As of a couple days ago, the lowly Phillies had scored only 506 runs all year. It is a contest between the Phil hitters and the Chicago thugs. Fortunately for the Chicago thugs, their season lasts the rest of the year.

I appreciate that statement and the sarcasm, but targeting the group with full prosecution for the crimes they get caught on, and then prison stays that are truly appropriate and served far from their neighborhoods are a must. Project Exile. It works.
Also, I believe ALL Americans should be armed if they so desire, even if they are felons. Returning to public life after prison is dangerous, especially for one that is making the effort to succeed and not joining back into the crime scene from whence he came. Those with bad intentions will acquire guns anyway, and the felon doing right is left defenseless.

Can we conclude decades of work by liberal activists (Saul Alinsky, Frank Marshall Davis, Jessie Jackson, Barack Obama, and Bill Ayers) and leadership of Democrat mayors (Rahm Emanuel, two Richard Daleys, Jane Byrne, Harold Washington) has been an abysmal failure?
Not my problem. Vote for corrupt Democrats for decades you get the Hell hole you deserve. There’s a reason I live out in the country and will never visit any of these cities.
