A Montana lawmaker has resigned as a delegate to the Republican National Convention over the GOP's position on the transfer of federal lands to states.

Republican U.S. Rep. Ryan Zinke told The (Billings) Gazette that he still plans to give a speech Monday to the convention about national security. But he says he's withdrawing as a delegate because the GOP platform is "more divisive than uniting."

Found this snippet in the AP newswire on ABC News, so apologize for the improv title. I believe Zinke is a former SEAL, but what a moron. Platform is calling for the return of Federal lands to the states which all representatives should be in favor of, but for some reason Zinke thinks this is divisive. He is still apparently speaking as scheduled. I understand Montana has a ton of land under Federal conteol but what is up with this? I must be missing something.

Sellagate may/may not be the newly coined word. I’d copyright that typo if I were you.

The feds have far too much power over land use and access which the state should have to a great extent. Let this RINO go...we have enough socialists to deal with.

“more divisive than uniting” = not liberal/progressive

State lands now belong to the State.
If the State doesn’t want it, sell it.
Or give it back the Indians, or to “the people”.
If they don’t want it, give it to me, I’ll take it.

One of the provisions of Texas entering the Union in 1845 was that the Lone Star State kept all its public lands. The Feds had to buy land from Texas when we because a state--

Gadzooks, back then... We knew how to deal with the DC Crowd

He should resign as a Rep. as he clearly is unfamiliar with the Constitution which he is sworn to uphold.

Agree. It’s that old cliché at work again about an “inch, and they take a mile’. The Constitution defines the areas of responsibilities between the Federal Government, and the States, but that means nothing to a Democrat with an agenda. Over the years with stacked courts, and majority Congressional influence the Left, the Democrats have incrementally screwed up the works to their favor.

All in the name of BIG GOVERNMENT.

Doesn’t sound good but maybe there is some ‘rich cronies’ deal involved.
Would like to hear from a Montanan.

Zinke is a dumbass. He proudly voted for Ryan for Speaker.

Proudly endorsed Trump early on as well. Alone in that among the chickenshit Montana delegation.

I think Trump's idea is that if states want to have it....he'll make it happen. A few folks think that state ownership is worse than Feds....cuz no telling what they will do.

And so, it all comes down to a "deal".

“This has been a major issue in Montana’s House race. Zinke says he supports better management but not transfer to the states.”

Then no matter what he may or may not have done in the service of his country, he needs to be primaried and sent home!

By delegation I mean those who represent Montana in D.C.

I am not sure how Trump’s support stands among the RNC Convention delegation, although I would guess it is quite strong.

I believe Utah has a a lawsuit against the federal government demanding the federal land be turned over to the state.

Take a look! Feds “own” 29% of Montana.

https://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/R42346.pdf

The issue is that when the Western States “joined the Union,” the Feds raped each of them. Nevada is 84% Federal land, and California is around 50%. Zinke is FOS, most of this land needs to be returned to the states, and the states need to see that anything that they don’t have a direct need for, is sold to the citizens. One thing that it would do is help reduce our debt. The other thing it would do is put the Bureau of Land Management on the chopping block. The Feds use this “ownership” to Eff with people like Cliven Bundy.

Ryan told me we all have to stick together and do what he tells us.

“I vote for the next Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan!”

The man has all the intellectual acumen of a sea cucumber.
