BAGHDAD (AP) In March, a senior commander with the Islamic State group was driving through northern Syria on orders to lead militants in the fighting there when a drone blasted his vehicle to oblivion.
The killing of Abu Hayjaa al-Tunsi, a Tunisian jihadi, sparked a panicked hunt within the group's ranks for spies who could have tipped off the U.S-led coalition about his closely guarded movements. By the time it was over, the group would kill 38 of its own members on suspicion of acting as informants.
They were among dozens of IS members killed by their own leadership in recent months in a vicious purge after a string of airstrikes killed prominent figures. Others have disappeared into prisons and still more have fled, fearing they could be next as the jihadi group turns on itself in the hunt for moles, according to Syrian opposition activists, Kurdish militia commanders, several Iraqi intelligence officials and an informant for the Iraqi government who worked within IS ranks.

It would be great to maximize their paranoia and in-fighting with false leads and trails of evidence that make them think there are even more traitors in their ranks. Get them to kill each other, do the job for us.....
You missed me. You missed me. Now you gotta kiss me.
Ohole has friggin armed them and begged Putin to stop destroying them.
Tarred and feathered, smeared with honey, and thrown to the hogs.
Have communications that implicates their leadership. 0bama supports ISIS so bational collection could help get the bad ISIS guys killed by their own.
Oh, THAT'S gonna work...
Infighting...this is always good news.
more good news. between this and the Piers Morgan karma thread.... this evening is looking up...
think i’ll have another glass of wine.... : )
Oh yes, we have more spies in ISIS than there are loyal ISIS members. I hope they don’t find out and start suicide bomb attacks on their own camp, because it would kill all our spies...
Hey, this intramural warfare keeps the boys sharp and on the game.
Once the “kill switch” is turned on, a little hard to turn it off. These boys GLORY in bringing death, regardless of the objective. Kind of like the football coach running scrimmage.
Too bad we can’t set up even more squads. They are their own best opponents.
Cool! It seems Putin’s actions in Syria have forced our military to step up its game in drone strikes. Nothing wrong with this!
Let’s face it, moles are not telegenic.
Fallout from Hitlery’s email?
The Mistaken Martyrs?
Armed them and tried to protect them?
Are you implying a guy named Hussein is a mole working to help ISIS take over the world?
Are you saying. Hussein removed troops from Iraq to screw America?
If you aren’t then you should. Hussein is working for them, not us.
We could use a modern day Meinertzhagen. He now has a reputation of being a B/S artist, but I believe these two tales are true.
During the fighting in Africa in WWI, the Germans had a very effective Arab spy - gave the Brits fits (no pun intended). Meinertzhagen, an intelligence officer, faked a letter from the Brits thanking that Arab for his excellent undercover work. He made sure the Germans intercepted it, and they obligingly shot the guy as a double agent.
In the battle of Gaza, he created a haversack stained with horse blood and filled it with everything an officer would possess - fake plans, codes, and personal items. Even fake letters from a fictional wife, sandwiches, and an expensive (but worn) watch. (Shades of "The Man Who Never Was").
Meinertzhagen made sure he was spotted by an enemy patrol, faked getting wounded (verified by those bloodstains), and in his "haste" to flee, left the haversack behind. The Turks fell for it and lost the battle.
The Gaza story is in the movie THE LIGHTHORSEMEN.
“It’s taken far too long but there does appear to be progress in taking down ISIS/ISIL”
Two months ago, we got a new Commanding General for our Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees the Middle East - General Joe Votel. He has set to kicking their ass up one side, and down the other.
All at once, he has the Iraqi Army and Iran seriously stomping the ISIS heartland of Fallujah, Peshmerga moving to take land around Mosul, Syrian Kurds striking a strategic blow to cut off their main supply route to Turkey, and two different militias moving from both sides to take ISIS territory in Libya. Even the Russians/Syrian Army have increased their pressure on ISIS (threatening Raqqa from the South), despite being busy elsewhere.
Under GEN Votel, US airstrikes have multiplied several times over, and ISIS is suffering a string losses among its leadership ranks. It is a whole new war.
ISIS command and control is likely incapable of managing so many operations at once. They will need to communicate more, which makes them more vulnerable to detection. Their losses exceed their replacement rate. Their territory has been contracting for the last year, and all sides now expect that. Their revenues have plummeted with the price of oil.
Only a (suicidal) Turkish invasion, or US reversal of (the new) policy could save them now. I expect the Caliphate to collapse over the next year, maybe before the election. ISIS will try to infiltrate its members elsewhere, and go undercover as a terrorist organization, plotting coups where it can.
Kill'em all!
