SEAL BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A fire ripped through the site of the former Ruby's Diner at the end of Seal Beach Pier Friday morning, sending a plume of thick, black smoke up into the air.
More than 60 Orange County Fire Authority firefighters battled the blaze at the abandoned restaurant in the 900 block of Ocean Avenue. The fire was reported just after 7:30 a.m.

I saw them fighting the fire from boats.

Looks like the fire started in the old kitchen area. I am thinking that rotted electrical wiring would be the likely cause.
That or some vagrants / druggies.
I have ate at the one on the Huntington Beach pier. The food has always been good.
I used to fish off that pier when I as a lad in the 50’s. Also Huntington Beach and Newport Beach piers.
It was gone 3 years ago when they declined to renew the contract as the pier wasn’t being maintained properly. Still isn’t. Maybe the fire will get them to actually fix the pier and make it likely someone rebuilds. I’m not going to hold my breath.
Update: Vacant Ruby’s Diner ‘has been destroyed’ after fire at Seal Beach Pier

I ate there too. Watch people fishing as you eat breakfast.
A shame. It was a pretty good restaurant.
SERIOUSLY?
(It's "I have eaten at..")

Arson. California has declared war on businesses and anyone
with any sense is getting out.

“I have ate at”...

You too? Maybe I've met you there........Were you that goop in the corner booth who was constantly burping?
I heard this when it was still burning this morning and watched the photos and videos on Twitter! Soooo sad! My son’s favorite restaurant in the whole world. We went there all the time, the kids always had to kiss the seal statue (hope it made it), many meals and snacks seated over the Pacific Ocean there. Every birthday he wanted to eat there.
I hope they rebuild. That pier takes a lot of ocean hits too.
