Trump’s deportation plan will consist of declaring every post office a Mexican embassy for a day. Then they will be given papers to re-enter legally on the spot.

No mention of the expected savings from reducing medical, food stamps, welfare, and everything else for these freeloading foreigners?

I’d bet we come out waaaaaay ahead.

Trump is the nominee. So why is a “Republican think tank” releasing a phony attack “study”? Because the GOP is all about open border and cheap labor for profits at the expense of Americans. And they WANT to hurt Trump, and help Hillary. She will keep the borders wide open and not deport a single illegal.

Liberals are only concerned about “cost” when it fits their agenda.

What do all the feel good regulations cost our GDP?

Trump's deportation plan could slice 2 percent off U.S. GDP
...and also slice five percent off of the U.S. budget.

Does the study consider that those 6.8 million jobs would now go to US citizens looking for work?

I find that I’m starting to doubt conservative think tanks as much as liberal ones.

“About 6.8 million of the more than 11 million immigrants living in the United States illegally are employed, according to government statistics.”

At the same time that we have close to 100 million able bodied Americans not working, this is just not true...

“The study added that removing those workers could leave potentially millions of jobs unfilled due to a lack of legal workers willing to do them. Industries with the highest share of undocumented workers include farming, construction, and hospitality, according to the research.”

Legal workers can’t even apply for jobs filled illegally by illegal workers. If the wages were not suppressed by illegal workers willing to work for less, there would be legal workers willing to hold those jobs.

Whole occupations have been snuffed out of the living wage category by illegal competition. Construction jobs are a prime example. Now drywall, painting, roofing, etc. are taken over by immigrants.

A pox on those who hire illegal workers, and claim the economy is better off!

Well, it would seem to me, that if Obama has enough money to fly them in, we could certainly save a bunch by bussing them out

If we shut off federal and state welfare benefits to these illegals it would definitely slice a point or two off of the GDP.

That tells you the folly of the GDP calculation rather than the size of the actual productive economy.

Balance the federal budget, and watch the GDP fall 20%.

Are we really saying that deficit-funded “growth” is real?

I can see this (although I think 2% is a little extreme). Think about it. Non-Worker A sits at home and collects $2,000 in welfare/food stamps/benefits (this is just an example). Worker B is an illegal immigrant who works for $5 an hour under the table ~ $1,000 per month.

We deport Worker B. $1,000 out of the economy. I know that some gets sent "home", but some portion of that $1,000 makes it into our local economy. Non-Worker B takes Worker A's job at $1,800/month (I know, like THAT'S going to happen.)

Bottom line is that there was $3,000 in the economy before, and there's only $1,800 in the economy after.

BUT!

There's no appreciation in this study for the fact that the $2,000 in benefits Non-Worker A is getting is BORROWED money. They're not considering that that money has to be paid back and comes OUT of the economy at some point. Their analysis allows them to kick the can down the road for future generations.

About 6.8 million of the more than 11 million immigrants living in the United States illegally are employed

If we can locate 6.8 million on day one maybe this won't take too long to locate the rest.
