Trump revisits North Carolina bathroom law for transgenders: Let the states decide
Hotair ^ | 04/22/2016 | AllahPundit

Since the debate over what he said yesterday is still raging, it’s only fair that you get to hear his latest comment about it. Skip to 8:35 of the clip below from last night’s interview on Trump TV.

His response to Hannity’s question about North Carolina is a dodge but it’s a dodge with a conservative pedigree. If you’re a Republican who’s been put on the spot about a hot-button social issue, you can’t go wrong saying, “Leave it to the states.” Even righties who disagree with you on the merits will tip their caps at your nod to federalism. In fact, this is Cruz’s go-to answer whenever he’s asked about gay marriage or marijuana. He’s against legalizing either, he’ll tell you, which pleases social conservatives, but he’s also not looking to use federal power to impose his personal preference, which pleases everyone else. Trump’s answer is trying to create the same dynamic — with a twist. Instead of reassuring non-Republicans that he’ll defer to their local preference, as Cruz does when he gives the federalism answer, Trump’s reassuring his own party. He’s telling the same evangelicals who helped him crush Cruz across the south that he’ll pose no obstacle to them on this issue as president, which is an … interesting position for a soon-to-be party nominee to find himself in with respect to his own base.

There’s one other key difference: Cruz opts for a federalist answer on gay marriage and marijuana because each of those issues has been pushed by social conservatives at the federal level. Marijuana is regulated by the federal government, of course, and SSM opponents have spent years calling for a Federal Marriage Amendment. Cruz, in choosing federalism, is answering a bona fide question of whether the states or the feds should govern on those topics. There’s no similar state/federal dispute over North Carolina’s law. No one’s calling for a Federal Transgender Bathroom Amendment. Trump seizes on federalism, in other words, not because there’s a legitimate question of which government should address this subject but because he understands that federalism is a crowd-pleasing way to dodge when you don’t know what to say. It’s another small example of him not knowing how to speak conservative fluently.

I wouldn’t call it a flip-flop, though, as some Trump critics have on social media. This is a flip-flop:

Trump went from fiscal hawk to dove in 3 weeks. Obama would agree with much of this: https://t.co/SXKiPa4lRo pic.twitter.com/s0RMW3VT2Z

— Benjy Sarlin (@BenjySarlin) April 22, 2016

That’s from an interview with Fortune Magazine, which pressed him on why he could possibly believe he might pay off America’s $19 trillion debt in 10 years. “I didn’t say 10 years,” Trump replied. Er, three weeks ago he said he could pay it off in eight years, and that he’d do it mainly by renegotiating America’s trade deals, which wouldn’t remotely approach $2-3 trillion per year in surpluses. How you reconcile that with what he said to Fortune, I have no idea. Maybe that’s what Paul Manafort meant by Trump playing a “part” earlier and shifting to a more sober approach now. The old Trump would lie, lie, lie right to your face about his superheroic powers of debt-slashing. The new, serious Trump will be more realistic, “realistic” in this case meaning somehow spending more on the military and on infrastructure and not laying a finger on entitlement spending (as Trump has promised before) and yet somehow still reducing the debt in the process. Old Trump, in other words, was more like Superman whereas new Trump is more like Batman — wildly implausible, if not quite outright impossible.

Here’s the Hannity interview, followed by Cruz trying to capitalize on Manafort’s comments to the RNC.

“Bruce Jenner wasted his money and only bought more heartache.”

Bruce “Caitlyn” Jenner will at some point commit suicide, just as so many Trannies before him have done, especially after taking the last step in their “transformation” and having gender surgery. One day we will wake up to the scandal mags blaring in big headlines the demise of Bruce/Caitlyn by suicide. Mark my words.

Not a backtrack - it’s a “revisit”. That’s different.

His supporters are okay with “revisits” It sounds more like returning to a favorite casino.

“Backtrack” sounds like a step backwards. The Trumpster never goes backwards. That’s for losers. The Trumpster “revisits” and “evolves”. That’s all very, very Believe me.

Abortion good, abortion bad, abortion good, I’m a Dem. I’m an Independent, I’m a Republican, you have a horse face, you’re attractive, he’s a child molester, he’s my new best friend, let’s share the restroom, it’ll be really big, I’m Israel’s best friend, let’s negotiate with terrorists, I’m not saying he is, I read it on the web, torture yes, torture no, Pope disgraceful, I respect him, punish women, oops, blah, blah, blah.

In a few months, he’ll be most revisiting every stinking thing he has said. He is the chameleon.

Believe me and Excuse me.

Maybe bathrooms should be relabeled. No “Men” or “Women.” Nothing to do with what someone thinks or feels their identity is.

Instead, the plumbing you use should be determined by the plumbing you have. The signs on the doors should simply say “Innies” and “Outies.”

For all you folks saying he switched his position, I would just like to point out to you that he never claimed that he wanted the federal government to interfere in this matter one way or the other. He was asked for his opinion. There is nothing inconsistent in saying that he thinks the N.C. law was not necessary and bad for business and saying that this is still a decision for the states to make. I think he should have made that clearer yesterday morning, but they are in no way contradictory positions. He certainly never said as president that he would try to use the federal government to stop N.C. after all.

Trump also never said NC didn’t have a right to pass the law he just believes the issue has not caused a problem rising to the level of necessitating a law. I agree. Its his opinion.

We have enough laws, no sign is going to stop somebody going in to a bathroom. I have 2 boys 9 and 10, I go with them to outside the men’s and yell to them to keep contact while they are in there. With all the weirdos out there today, who lets a 5 year old go alone to the bathroom?

Actually, that’s what he meant by what he said the first time. Leave it like it is (no Federal intervention), and if the states pass laws that hurt their economy then so be it.

The polity of potty.

“You’re not going to get any of those things.”

Never said I would. I said I would tell him that what we has republicans expect. In fact we demand. Now he has said he is a republican so he better learn fast what that means. Republican are by and large pro life, pro gun, and pro family.

Don’t you go worrying about those muslims. We just have not played Cowboys and Muslims, ask the Indians how that ended.

Don’t tell me not to worry about muslims. I live in NYC and have a very long memory. And America is no longer a frontier-style country willing to deal with savages.

Would you just chill!

I know what the muslims are doing in Europe but you have to take into account one thing. In Europe no one is armed. Sometimes not even the police! In places the women can’t even carry pepper spray. In Germany people don’t even carry pocket knives from what I’ve been told.

Here we can carry a six shooter on our hips and women have pink colored CS tear gas in on their key chain, many have a stun gun. Where I live every John and Jane Doe has some kind of hunting knife or pocket knife on them at all times. We are the most armed country in the freaking world. Yes the muslims have tried crap here but not like they so over there because they know we will send them to aller!

Now really it’s Clinton and Obama’s fault we even have muslims here to start with. We should have been protesting back then, not hounding this guy to get them out. Because I tell you what, getting rid of them will be like getting rid of a case of Herpes.

The problem with that comment is that it will not become a state issue as we have seen with their sham marriage crap they will judge shop and find a federal judge to overturn this.

He should have said that if you are born with a penis then you are a man end of.
