Ted Cruz Shifts Away From Pledge to Support GOP Nominee
The Texas Tribune ^ | March 25, 2016 | Patrick Svitek

"I don't make a habit out of supporting people who attack my wife and attack my family, and Donald Trump is not going to be the Republican nominee," Cruz told reporters Friday afternoon, his clearest suggestion yet that he could not back the billionaire if he is the GOP's standard-bearer in the general election. .
.
.
"I want to be crystal clear: These attacks are garbage," Cruz wrote on Facebook. "For Donald J. Trump to enlist his friends at the National Enquirer and his political henchmen to do his bis bidding shows you that there is no low Donald won't go."

Is there any confirmation out there that Trump is behind this (vs say - some other candidate, former candidate, or group?)

Apparently, the importance of the "pledge" varies from week to week, from candidate to candidate...Trump, Cruz, Kasich, so what's the point of the pledge?

Breaking pledges is nothing new for Ted Cruz.

I’m betting cruz is regretting posting those nude pics of Trumps wife about now, eh?

I’m still supporting a Trump/Cruz ticket. If they mend fences, they beat Hillary/Castro 70/30.

The entire tabloid/mainstream media is with Trump. They are making up stories about Cruz and Trump is attacking his wife. I can understand why Cruz wants nothing to do with Trump even if Trump “wins” the primary.

TYPICAL LAWYER. Nobody “attacked” your wife or your family, Cruz. Trump CRITICIZED your wife but didn’t “ATTACK” her. Knock it off with the sympathy-inducing language, lawyer Cruz.

He’s becoming a total cry-baby, sheesh. I guess that Glenn Beck self-pity is catching.

Is he responsible for Breitbart as well? The Washington Times confirmation?

I would break the pledge too. Trump’s a disgrace.

There were three others on to this story before the Enquirer.

Breitbart, the Rubio campaign and maybe the paper was the Washington Post?

Yeah, thought that would be the case when Donald signed the pledge. First the NRO bunch, then the Red State bunch, then the GOP bunch, then the candidate bunch, Trump I guess just needs to do a hostile takeover of the whole thing. Go Trump!

I’m confused. Didn’t one of Cruz’s minions start all this by posting a mostly nude photo of Trump’s wife? Why is Cruz all taking the high moral ground at all?

“The entire tabloid/mainstream media is with Trump. “

Too early for bad standup comedy.

Nah, I don’t believe Trump is behind it, he warned him that he might spill the beans, but that is it.

This goes much higher in the Political Food Chain.

The GOPe, and SuperPACs and factions of the Democratic Party desperate to not lose power, are doing everything to discredit both Candidates, put in their own candidate that is a plant that Hillary can easily defeat.

Both have to come together, and put this to rest immediately, or both might lose.

A brokered convention where delegates can pick who they want is the bleak forcast if one of them does not reach 1237

I used to think that would be a winning ticket.
I don’t think so anymore.
Trump needs somebody who knows Washington but isn’t currently in Washington.

Cruz is now officially all in GOPe (and they’re gonna screw him over royal right along with Trump). Ok, we’re getting set for wholesale betrayal and a third party (actually second but who’s counting) challenge.
