Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz, campaigning in Utah, called Donald Trump's attacks on Mitt Romney Mormon affiliation "sad" and "disgraceful.''

"It was sad yesterday to see Donald Trump stand up in Utah and call into question Mitt Romney's faith," the Texas senator told reporters on Saturday after a rally in Draper ahead of the state's Republican nominating contest on March 22.

In fact, even during a May 2012 speech at Liberty University, founded by the late televangelist Jerry Falwell, Romney would only speak in general terms about a "Christian conscience" but would not specifically mention his own religion

In Iowa, we saw that "whatever it takes to win" attitude. Why are folks still supporting and defending him?

The irony is that more candidates might still be in the running if it weren't for Cruz's tactics.

Cruz doesn’t have a clue. I’m happy to see him tie his wagon to Willard, though. What a maroon.

I would think that Mormons would find Glenn Beck’s pronouncement that Cruz is the “fulfillment of Mormon prophecy” to be offensive.

I think that it is Cruz’s association with Glenn Beck that has turned off many Evangelical voters. Cruz had hundreds of paid staff in SC, had the endorsement of over 300 Evangelical pastors spread through every county, and poured in lots of money there, but failed to win a single county. Remember, at that time Glenn Beck was going around and saying that Cruz had been sent by God to guide us thru the rapture, and that Scalia’s death was part of God’s plan to get us to vote for Cruz. I think most people found that rather bizarre and offensive.

Cruz also defends Romney denouncing Reagan-Bush in Debate with Ted Kennedy in October 25, 1982

Romney sought to distance himself from Reagan during an Oct. 25, 1994, debate with Edward Kennedy, the veteran Democratic senator he was trying to unseat in Massachusetts. Kennedy said Romney was trying to take the U.S. back to the “Reagan-Bush years,” a reference to Reagan’s vice president and his White House successor for one term, George H.W. Bush. “I was an independent during the time of Reagan-Bush,” Romney said. “I’m not trying to return to Reagan-Bush.”

Trump attacked Willard(a rat) Romney, not Mormons.

This is how they label him a bigot.

Long overdue for anti-Cruz ads featuring Beck. Long overdue.

I voted for Trump. But I am not ready to bring on any aspersions about Mormon this or that. Both Romney and that insane Glenn Beck can be denounced for what they are and have been without connecting it to a religion.

Most troubling to me, irrespective of religion, is Cruz’ willingness to allow whatever religious-based support and advocacy surrounding him being connected as some kind of Mormon prophecy. To me, as one who supported Cruz until the end of 2015, aligning himself with and embracing support from Beck and Romney is one very bad, serious breach of judgment and indicates to me that I made the right choice in abandoning his candidacy.

AS FREEPER WENDLE INSIGHTFULLY POSTED: Cruz is an anointed messiah IN A SICK CULT THAT THINKS THEY NEED TO BE IN POWER BEFORE CHRIST CAN COME BACK......the “seven mountain" dominionist theories are kookier than the mass suicide Jonestown cult in Guyana.

Cruz tried like heck, but he didn't fool evangelicals. They dismissed Cruz/s phony Christianity and put their support squarely behind Trump.

Cruz/s extreme Dominionist beliefs call for religion in every aspect of government. Coincidentally (cough), many of Cruz/s political positions.....like economic libertarianism and TPP....also fit into the far-out Dominionist teachings Cruz learned form his father/s preaching.

The elder Cruz preaches that Christians are divided into Kings and Priests,.....the kings (politicians) go out and conquer the financial world and bring the money back to the priests (pastors in contemporary terms).

Ted and Heidi Cruz/s economic libertarianism also dovetails nicely w/ globalist Goldman/Sachs---who financed Ted into office. G/S is Heidi's $700,000 a year employer. So it looks like the Cruz/s have a head start in getting money back to the pastors.

====================================

Cruz should tell voters:

<><> what role does he plan for his preacher father in the US govt,

<><> what govt job does he plan to give his G/S globalist lawyer wife?

Another irony is that Cruz’s supporters here question Trump’s faith ad infinitum.

Romney is seeking to deny Trump the nomination, saying he was "repulsed" by the "racism, misogyny, bigotry, xenophobia, vulgarity and, most recently, threats and violence" associated with the real estate magnate’s candidacy.

A person making wild, unsubstantiated claims that are NOT true, is a person who does not practice his faith, ehhh?

Such claims are Romney's wishes, that he knows are not true. Someone who misrepresents the facts deliberately and so publicly is a vicious liar. What faith is that?

It is certainly pushing me to the edge...

I understand Beck draws a certain type of voter to Cruz, but I think there is a lot more negative than positive attributes to his association with this loon...

“I think that it is Cruz’s association with Glenn Beck that has turned off many Evangelical voters.”

In part. There is also the who Dominionist thing, the condescension thing, the hypocrisy thing, the vote for me or you are not Christian thing, and the heavy handed, pass the plate thing.

Yes, indeed. I had my doubts about what kind of Christian Ted Cruz was now it looks like he is the phoney evangelist type who now embraces mormonism to buy a few votes.

Cruz knows that Romney has what it takes to lie his way to be a lawless "King", like Goldman Cruz.
