What has happened to Free Republic? [What difference at this point can it possibly make?]

Posted on 03/17/2016 3:13:11 PM PDT by katwoman5779

Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. Most of the serious posts were bemoaning the out of control government and what could be done about it. "Oh Whoa is Me!". Then along comes a constitutional conservative. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. This man was elected by conservatives to go to Washington and stand up to the elites that no longer listen to the American people. He didn't go to Washington and "fall in" with the crowd. He went there and stood up to them just like he said it would - calling a spade a spade. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how otherwise intelligent people can fall for the likes of Donald Trump. This man was donating to the same people we were fighting to throw out of office the last eight years. Suddenly he is a conservative after years of joining with the liberals to promote big fat bloated government. He is not an outsider. He has been greasing the palms of the slime bags in Washington for 30 years. He can't even define what conservatism is. Wake up America. You are no better than the sycophants that suck up to Obuma. You can't see that Trump is just pushing your buttons with his rhetoric - just like Obuma pushed his sycophants buttons. The hate I see on Free Republic for Ted Cruz, Mark Levin and all the other great conservative leaders remind me of liberal websites. It is disgusting.

And, of course, probably half or more of people who consider themselves to be conservative disagree with those positions on immigration, trade and foreign policy.

My impression from reading FreeRepublic over the years, is that at least half the people who would define themselves as strong conservatives just pine for a return to the 1950's. Probably mostly related to demographics and social issues, but also back to a time before the rest of the world caught up to the US in education and technology.

Of course, imagining a return to the past would also put us at a point where illegal immigration, trade, and foreign policy weren't issues you used in choosing which candidate to vote for.

You may believe that, but the Canadian Citizenship Act that governs this was passed in 1947. What is your “belief” based on?

That fact that he held dual citizenship says everything you need to know about his eligibility, or lack there of.

The Cruzbots shouldn't have started it, then. The electorate (especially those outside of the NY-DC corridor, or the elite areas of CA), and even more so, the right-of-center, are downright *sick* of being being pissed on and told it is raining.

It is the Cruz supporters who spam FR with meaningless, wishful-thinking, unrealistic spam about how Cruz can win; emphasizing victories in small, GOP-only caucus states over major unexpected victories by Trump in what was supposed to be Cruz's home turf...winning in all demographics.

It is the Cruz supporters who echoed the RINO insults of Trump supporters as blue collar, unemployed, losers or crypto-racists.

They are only getting their own back returned with compound interest.

“A few of a half dozen reasons I switched from preferring Cruz to preferring Trump was his projection of strength, his ability to form a narrative above the heads of the media, and his willingness to face down the whining, moronic leftists and win.

No one else in the race can do what he’s doing without being destroyed by the left (as well as the turncoats in the GOP).”

I, too, switched from Cruz to Trump, for those, and the aforementioned half dozen other reasons. The first thing that froze me in my tracks, was Ted’s parliamentary trickery on TPA/TPP. Later, his affirmative vote for the Corker amendment shut the door. Since then there’s been one revelation after another that have validated my loss of trust in Ted.

In the meantime, I haven’t seen or heard a single thing that diminished my trust or respect for Trump. I remain convinced that he’s in this thing to do what he says: Make America Great Again.

Multiple citizenship (dual) not legal until 1977.

By the 1930s and the outbreak of World War II, Canada’s naturalization laws consisted of a hodgepodge of confusing acts,[3] which still retained the term “British subject” as the designation for “Canadian nationals”. This eventually conflicted with the nationalism that arose following the First and Second World Wars, and the accompanying desire to have the Dominion of Canada’s sovereign status reflected in distinct national symbols (such as flags, anthem, seal, etc.).[4] This, plus the muddled nature of existing nationality law, prompted the enactment of the “Canadian Citizenship Act, 1946”, which took effect on 1 January 1947. On that date, “Canadian citizenship” was conferred on most Canadians previously classified as “British subjects”. Subsequently, on 1 April 1949, Canadian nationality law was extended to Newfoundland, upon the former British colony joining the Canadian confederation as the Province of Newfoundland.

Canadian nationality law was substantially revised again on 15 February 1977, when the new “Citizenship Act” came into force. From that date, multiple citizenship became legal. However, those who had lost Canadian citizenship before that date did not automatically have it restored until 17 April 2009, when Bill C-37 became law.[5] The 2009 act, the most recent major change to laws governing Canadian citizenship, limited the issuance of citizenship to children born outside Canada to Canadian ancestors (jus sanguinis) to one generation abroad.[6]

Birth in Canada[edit]

In general, everyone born in Canada from 1947 or later acquires Canadian citizenship at birth. In one 2008 case, a girl born to a Ugandan mother aboard a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Boston was deemed a Canadian citizen for customs purposes because she was born over Canada’s airspace.[7]

The only exceptions concern children born to diplomats, where additional requirements apply.

Please explain the fact that Hillary wins in nearly EVERY SINGLE poll of dozens vs. Trump. In many she wins by a margin that would be a historic win of the Democrats and not only win the Senate for them (which was almost certain anyway) but also deliver the House.

A vote for Trump is a vote for a permanent Democratic majority for decades.
