What has happened to Free Republic? [What difference at this point can it possibly make?]

Posted on 03/17/2016 3:13:11 PM PDT by katwoman5779

Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. Most of the serious posts were bemoaning the out of control government and what could be done about it. "Oh Whoa is Me!". Then along comes a constitutional conservative. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. This man was elected by conservatives to go to Washington and stand up to the elites that no longer listen to the American people. He didn't go to Washington and "fall in" with the crowd. He went there and stood up to them just like he said it would - calling a spade a spade. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how otherwise intelligent people can fall for the likes of Donald Trump. This man was donating to the same people we were fighting to throw out of office the last eight years. Suddenly he is a conservative after years of joining with the liberals to promote big fat bloated government. He is not an outsider. He has been greasing the palms of the slime bags in Washington for 30 years. He can't even define what conservatism is. Wake up America. You are no better than the sycophants that suck up to Obuma. You can't see that Trump is just pushing your buttons with his rhetoric - just like Obuma pushed his sycophants buttons. The hate I see on Free Republic for Ted Cruz, Mark Levin and all the other great conservative leaders remind me of liberal websites. It is disgusting.

What is Trump's tax plan?

How much money has Cruz accepted from “the Establishment” as opposed to Trump?

“We’re done”

I waded through a couple hundred “You are” NO “YOU ARE” posts for this one. I could see it coming from a mile away. Like a train coming down the track bearing down on a car stalled in the crossing.

Insulting people is generally not a good persuasion technique.

Tell that to your leader, Trump the Insult-Comic Dog, who has alienated and insulted a good portion of the party he would need in November.

“Now, don’t forget in a different poll, and this is what has shocked so many polling professionals. Back in May, remember, Trump’s unfavorable was at 63%, in May. His favorables were 29%. In that 63% unfavorable poll, Trump is now at 61% favorable, almost a direct reversal, and 29% unfavorable. I mean, it’s just done a 180. And now in the Monmouth University poll, same thing, a total reversal. Trump has gone from something like 30% favorable to 59% favorable and 29% unfavorable.”

Been here since 1997 and on paper, Ted Cruz is definitely the most conservative candidate in the race. That said, I am supporting Donald Trump this go-around. I have always maintained I would support Ted Cruz in the general should he win the nomination. However, I believe that Donald Trump has the best chance to win the general election and I feel that he means to do the things that he says he will do.

His signature issues such as building the wall, stopping illegal immigration, protecting second amendment rights, lessening the onerous tax burden and negotiating better deals with regard to trade are conservative enough for me. Until he came onto the scene, the other candidates were not even talking about most of these issues.

Ted Cruz is very well liked by most conservatives but he is toxic to most everybody else. We cannot afford to lose this election to Shrillary Clinton. While I will definitely support Cruz as nominee, I feel our chances are much better with Trump. As it stands right now, Cruz will get killed (in a general) in pretty much all the battleground states that the Republicans need in order to win the 270 EVs.

Ted Cruz is 44 years old. He will have plenty of other opportunities to run for president. Even if Trump serves two terms, Cruz will still be in his lower 50s - still a very young and vigorous age. In the meantime, he can work on his image so that when he runs again, he will gain more voters.

In my opinion, this is just not Cruz's year. Just like 1976 wasn't Reagan's year and 1960 wasn't Nixon's year. Like them, Cruz will definitely have another shot.

He believes growth, along with repatriation of wealth from corporations that are overseas will help a lot, and he's right about both. I've also heard him talking about the simplicity of actual across the board cuts for most federal agencies (not reducing the rate of growth), consolidation of some, and abolishment of others.

A few of a half dozen reasons I switched from preferring Cruz to preferring Trump was his projection of strength, his ability to form a narrative above the heads of the media, and his willingness to face down the whining, moronic leftists and win.

No one else in the race can do what he's doing without being destroyed by the left (as well as the turncoats in the GOP).

I totally agree.
Mr. Trump is deceiving a ton of people at this site who should know better.

Rest assured Trump will cut DEALS with the DC establishment should he be elected President.

I believe Trump will be the nominee.
I also believe he will most likely win the presidency.
I also believe that, if he does win, you’re going to see a lot of buyer’s remorse here. He’s already stated his willingness to deal with Pelosi and Reid

You're a rather LATE COMER to FR and your signup date is '06. So it either took you 3 years of reading to join, or you're a liar. In any event, you don't know what you're talking about.

"VITRIOL" ? You want to talk about "vitriol"? Why not outright slander/libel?

I don't know how old your are; however, your memory, for whatever reason/s, is exceedingly bad. Posters, here, have trashed Mittens and his father for at least as long as FR was first begun; ditto for McQueeg...if not more so.

I'm not blind at all; I have a memory that is one of the best in the world and is both a curse and a blessing. Obviously you either don't pay attention, of things go in one eye and out the other quickly.

AFAIK, nobody has called another poster an "ABORTIONIST" yet, because of whom that poster supports, to date. Neither has SUBVERSIVE, COMMIE, or PERVERT been slung at anybody that I know of. And those few impugnations were pretty "normal" fare here during past primary seasons.

Since I doubt that believe one word I've posted, I suggest that you dig through FR's archives.

In 2008 the establishment told us that McCain was the best thing to beat Obama and we should vote the lesser of evils and come together and we did, we watched in horror as McCain cowered to Obama and even defended him it was sickening, in 2012 the establishment told us to rally around a Mormon who wouldn’t stick up for himself either and we did, so in 2016 we are telling the establishment that it is time that they be the ones to hold their nose and vote for the lesser of evils and come together and support our nominee, they are kicking and screaming even though they had no problem demanding it of us, we were loyal now they must be loyal, one time out of the last 30 years is not too much to ask.... Let’s get this over with and I have no fear that Trump will cower to Hillary.... LOL it is gonna be a hoot.

besides Cruz has no chance he would need to win over 80 percent of the remaining delegates and that isn’t going to happen... normally this is when the establishment jams us up with the come together for the sake of the party well now the shoe is on the other foot ... I suggest they heed their own advice.

Well, I am all for TRUMP! And if I had some of the problems that some people here seem to have, I would just try some Metamucil and get a good night’s sleep. Oh, and for sure don’t drink any Cafe Du Monde Chicory Coffee for a few days.

It’s as though Trump were a virus ... a contagious one.. and all the formerly sane freepers have caught it.

There seems to be no cure. They’d rather stay sick anyway.
