Donald Trumps facing a wall within his party, with Republicans who dont currently support him far more apt to prefer Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio in a two-way race -- or even to favor a contested convention to block Trumps nomination.
Trump continues to lead in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll, with 34 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents who are registered to vote saying theyd like to see him win the nomination. But he trails both Cruz and Rubio one-on-one. And preferences for Cruz, Rubio and John Kasich have grown as others have left the race, while Trumps support has essentially remained unchanged for months.
In the current multi-candidate race, 25 percent say theyd like to see Cruz win the nomination, with 18 percent for Rubio and 13 percent for Kasich; those are +4, +7 and +11 points compared with January, respectively, to new highs for each. Trump, by contrast, peaked at 38 percent in December. (In a difference from previous matchups, this poll asked respondents whom theyd like to see win, rather than whom theyd vote for, since the primaries are underway.)
In hypothetical two-way matchups, Cruz leads Trump by 54-41 percent and Rubio leads Trump by 51-45 percent in this poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates. While the latter lead isnt statistically significant, both are further signs of the apparent limits to Trumps popularity within his party. Indeed, among non-Trump supporters, seven in 10 say theyd prefer Cruz, and as many say theyd pick Rubio, in head-to-head contests.

And a dollar will get you a subway token.
As soon as Rubio loses Florida, it is over for him. Same with Kacish in Ohio.
Who will the Republicans want then to replace Trump? Since Cruz isn’t an option. With winner take all starting up, unless the establishment can steal primaries, for all intent and purpose, this race is over.
It’s so obvious that is what is going on. If Cruz had jumped out to a lead (a big if, he’s so stiff and uncharismatic) and Trump was in second, Cruz would be the target of a huge campaign by the party and its donors, and they would be pushing Trump. All to keep anyone from getting a majority so they can pick who they want.
You are right and the GOP knows this too.
they know Cruz can’t get enough delegates and are just using him right now.
cruz is playing right into their hands and for some reason he refuses to see it. I guess his ambition is more important.
agreed
“In a hypothetical match where?”
That is in the article.
You want to come here to FL and see the AD’s being placed and there is your proof.
Another freeper put up earlier all the PAC’s attacking Trump and how much has been spent here, 10 million to take Trump out
There is an agenda to destroy America. They want to move American manufacturing and jobs out of the country. They want to import massive amounts of heroin. They want to import jihadists to destroy our country. They want to leave our borders unsecured. They want to disarm all honest law abiding citizens and provide guns to all criminals. They want to abolish freedom of speech and freedom of religion. They want to turn the U.S. into a backward third world dictatorship.
There are only a few people standing in the way.
The most prominent is Donald Trump.
good point
LOL!
Wishful thinking from the Establishment trying to Sell VOIDING the Votes of Republican voters.
Only a weak minded fool would believer voters want their vote voided.
You can rest assured that if Jeb or Rubio had Trump’s numbers then the Establishment would be saying it’s over.
“Cruz is playing right into their hands and for some reason he refuses to see it”
He not only sees it, he is in hand with it. Cruz is the establishment’s, ‘Anti-Establishment” Candidate.
The view here this morning is splendid high atop Trump PEAK. ;-)
“Meaning Limbaugh is carrying out his assignment from the GOPe.”
You better double up on the tin-foil, just to be safe./sarc
I like how you said that.
So true too.
Cruz is the establishments anti establishment candidate.
once they are done with him he will be left out in the cold.
This was supposed to be the easier election and yet the GOP finds a way to screw it up again.
I swear they want Clinton , but then again some have said they would vote for Clinton if Trumps gets it.
Are you sure? That number seems low.
Trump has made it clear at his rallies that HE is not the driving force behind this movement -- it is us, the people.
And that's what is so terrifying to the globalist commies. They already know that they deserve fair trials and fine hangings. It has been their dirty secret for half a century and more. When "We the People" know, and make clear that we know that the globalist commies NEED to be tried, convicted, and executed, only then do they start to give a rip.
This type of crap has been going on for too long. That’s why we need someone like Trump.
“I swear they want Clinton”
They will do anything to get four more years at the trough.
It's now a game of delegates broken down State by State.
If you can see a way Cruz wins NY, NJ, CA, etc., share it, as I'd be happy to listen.
“How does he keep hitting a wall when more and more candidates drop out? Hes knocked out 12 guys and a girl already, yet keeps winning.”
______________________________
Trump seems to be hitting a wall because as these candidates are dropping out his numbers are no longer growing...in fact, his numbers are starting to slide a bit, while the support for the remaining candidates seems to be expanding... and, in the 1:1 polling (like this ABC poll) he’s getting clobbered, even by Hillary...so, when the GOP race gets down to two...the winning could stop with winner-take-all states...then, the game will be over!
