Donald Trumps facing a wall within his party, with Republicans who dont currently support him far more apt to prefer Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio in a two-way race -- or even to favor a contested convention to block Trumps nomination.
Trump continues to lead in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll, with 34 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents who are registered to vote saying theyd like to see him win the nomination. But he trails both Cruz and Rubio one-on-one. And preferences for Cruz, Rubio and John Kasich have grown as others have left the race, while Trumps support has essentially remained unchanged for months.
In the current multi-candidate race, 25 percent say theyd like to see Cruz win the nomination, with 18 percent for Rubio and 13 percent for Kasich; those are +4, +7 and +11 points compared with January, respectively, to new highs for each. Trump, by contrast, peaked at 38 percent in December. (In a difference from previous matchups, this poll asked respondents whom theyd like to see win, rather than whom theyd vote for, since the primaries are underway.)
In hypothetical two-way matchups, Cruz leads Trump by 54-41 percent and Rubio leads Trump by 51-45 percent in this poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates. While the latter lead isnt statistically significant, both are further signs of the apparent limits to Trumps popularity within his party. Indeed, among non-Trump supporters, seven in 10 say theyd prefer Cruz, and as many say theyd pick Rubio, in head-to-head contests.

Trump hits wall article #1,369?
I am a pretty reasonable person, at times, so let me fill you in on something maybe people havent thought of:
If you think the bombs being thrown at Trump right are hard, wait until Trump or Cruz meets Hillary at her finest...
Trump is tough, and he can take it, I dont know about Cruz, I dont care enough about him to even count, so here we are, one of them is going to have to go up against the shrill herself....the media, DNC, talking heads, foreign leaders shes paid off, everybody and their dogs are going to protect her and there isnt going to be a thing to fight back with, unless you start collecting articles now, and I have been since 2012; so I have the ammo to hit back and so does Trump, she is the New World Order darling and dont think that isnt the truth...
When Trump warned Cruz about his birther situation, he wasnt being mean as a lot took it to mean, he was warning him he had better clean it up because Hillary will use it and it will be turned around to her benefit, and his weak statement of my mother was born in America isnt going to mean a tinkers damn to her, shell file papers in every court in America, and those Judges will be paid heavily to side with her or their jobs will be gone, this is the Clinton Crime Family, they are killers, crooks, liars and a lot more and arent behind bars and never will be...
So think about this, dont take this lightly, she will do anything and everything to get to the Oval Office, even assassination if need be....
But he trails both Cruz and Rubio one-on-one.
The attacks upon Cruz are fascinating; i.e. our entire “Elite” class is attacking him. I’ll bet that if he survives the attacks and appears to be obtaining the nomination the “Elite” class will order his assassination. See Huey Long in the 1930’s he was effective, hence feared, hence shot.
Cruz is being backed right now by the establishment. Once cruz gets enough delegates to stop Trump ten the GOP will stab cruz right in the back .
After all he did their dirty work for them.
“In hypothetical two-way matchups, Cruz leads Trump by 54-41 percent”
Once Rubio/Kasich are out, Cruz wins going away!
Just like they have everyone of the other candidates...
How does he keep hitting a wall when more and more candidates drop out? He’s knocked out 12 guys and a girl already, yet keeps winning.
Limbaugh is pimping Cruz today. I assume Limbaugh was at Sea Island with Tim Cook(Apple, Inc.) and the rest of our Ruling Class the other day.
In a hypothetical match where?
The remaining delegate rich States are what’s important, and like him or not, I can’t see a path for Cruz to 1237.
There are now two candidates in the race: Trump and Romney. Rubio and Cruz are working for Romney.
Meaning Limbaugh is carrying out his assignment from the GOPe.
“Cruz is being backed right now by the establishment.”
Got a link for that? And no, not the phony ‘Romney will support Rubio, Kasich, or Cruz’ if they are nominated.’
Please let me know the date and time of the national primary so I can vote. I was under the impression that these were state by state affairs, after all. This renders these kinds of national polls useless, even if a candidate I favor is leading them.
Please name for me the Romney states that Trump loses in November. Conversely, please name for me the states Cruz wins that Obama lost in 2012.
I’ll wait.
“So think about this, dont take this lightly, she will do anything and everything to get to the Oval Office, even assassination if need be....”
Don’t rule out the rich thugs, who control the Establishment Republicans. So far, they have been more evil than Hillary’s thugs.
Boy, MSM keeps reporting Donald hitting that ‘wall’ and ‘ceiling’.
But gee, I guess the states that are coming up, NY. NJ. PA are just going to pop on over to Cruz/Rubio, yeah?
Love him or hate him, Donald will bag the nomination very soon.
