New York is taking steps to stop therapists from trying to change young people's sexual orientation, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Saturday, joining a number of states that have acted against what's known as gay conversion therapy.
The Democratic governor's move, announced Saturday, comes as gay rights advocates have campaigned state by state with mixed results to try to ban a practice that major mental health organizations have repudiated.
Using executive power in a state where legislative bids to ban the therapy have stalled, Cuomo announced planned regulations that would bar insurance coverage for the therapy for minors and prohibit mental health facilities under state Office of Mental Health jurisdiction from offering it to minors. ...

Upstate NY should completely secede and tell NYC and Albany to pound sand.
Private Indoctrination (if you can even all it that) is VERBOTEN!
PUBLIC INDOCTRINATION is PERFECTLY FINE!
Velcome to Least Germany, errr, I mean The United Socialist States of America...
“Conversion” implies it’s a choice, not something you’re born with. It’s more of an emotional illness, one that can be cured if the patient realizes he has a disease. As long as they’re being told it’s a good thing, however, treatment isn’t likely.
Thought crime is real now.
Is straight conversion therapy still OK? Is it still required in the government schools?
On the other hand, if there were therapy that would convert hetero people to gays, that would okey-dokey I’ll bet.
Wow.
So, stopping treatment for paranoids and schizophrenics as well?

“The 24-year-old, who had Asperger’s syndrome, was legally known as Danielle Jacobs, but identified as Kayden Clarke and hoped to transition from female to male, friends told the Arizona Republic. Police were at his home Thursday morning after being alerted to a suicidal email he had sent out, according to the Associated Press.
“A pair of officers tried to talk to Clarke through an open doorway as a third officer retrieved a ‘less-than-lethal option,’ a Mesa police spokesman said Friday, according to video uploaded by the Republic. Clarke came to the door with a large kitchen knife in hand, said the spokesman, who referred to Clarke as a woman.”
What if its done voluntarily?
You’re not allowed to do anything voluntarily. That which is not mandated is prohibited.
Amazing how a governor, for God’s sake, can move in on the medical/scientific community. Scary, children. And this from Andrew “Vote for Cuomo, Not the Homo” Cuomo.
They could tell them to pound salt, but I think it’s outlawed in the Big A$$hole.
The best modern implementation of an endeavor like this probably wouldn’t even look like something medical. It would look like spiritual counseling, like a kind of long term deliverance ministry. As such, it would be quite outside of the reach of laws like this, because it amounts to free exercise of religion.
Still in principle if physicians or psychologists wish to take a cause like this under their wing, they ought to be free to do so. The opposition is based in madness and distortions.
What I fear is the government coming down on something they have no understanding of. Cuomo is a dummy when it comes to psychological/biological input of what makes up a homosexual! This is a disorder that has been known to man since the ancients but we expect Cuomo - who barely made it through Fordham - to weigh in? And use the government behind him to enforce it? It’s like Stalin ordering a dissident to the psych ward.
Who thought it would come to America?
America is fad driven, not history driven. And we’re watching the sad results.
Not surprised.
They outlawed Socialist Conversion Therapy after Reagan won New York state in the 1984 presidential election.
