"The citizens need to know they need to be able to protect themselves because if they call 911, we can't guarantee we're going to get there in time to help you," says Police Protective League President Jamie McBride.
He told Paige that Thursday morning between 5:30 and 10 a.m., there were just three patrol cars assigned to the West LA division. Two cars to protect more than 200,000 people in a 65 square mile radius.

“When seconds count.....(you know the rest)”
So...the LAPD has officially recognized the awful truth.
That’s nice.
I don’t know how more police will protect us as the Supreme Court has ruled police have no duty to do so.

.......the small city where I live has virtually ZERO major felony crime (home invasion, robbery, murder, car jacking, rape etc etc).
Indeed, it may have been decades since one of these type crimes have occurred, if ever.
The irony is that despite this comparatively pristine record, we have more cops on the street than this article asserts West LA has.
“Cops”, ala the big city unionized versions, have just become waaaayyyyy to expensive per cop. Small cities are transitioning to private cops at a greatly reduced COST. I think the next step is trained, volunteer, mostly unarmed observers on the streets late at night.
The days of sole reliance upon cops riding around in expensive patrol cars are coming to a gradual and painfully slow end.
>>Oh, and don’t ask us for a CCW either.<<
All the while, gangbangers from the Mexican mafia, MS-13, Latin Kings, Bloods, Cripts OWN the streets at night.
And with one of the worst gun control States in the Union, how in the hell are we going to protect ourselves.
Buy now and lock and load.
Trump for President.
I think the next step is trained, volunteer, mostly armed observers on the streets late at night.
Milita... you're talking about militia. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

A man I knew in college said he managed a bar. They’d never had any traffic problems. One day a cop showed up and told him they needed to have officers directing traffic on Friday and Saturday night and they would pay (if I recall) $75 per hour per officer, minimum of two officers. He said no. The police then used numerous on-duty officers to stop every patron and do a sobriety check. He agreed to pay and they stopped doing that. If the Mafia did this it would be a RICO case. But this isn’t the only case I’ve heard of or read about where they perform this shakedown.
Another shakedown is when they load up the Sunday shift when there is usually no crime and little traffic. This is so the cops get time and a half.
10-4
My mind tells me yes but, remembering the recent incident where the “volunteer” shot and killed a man “accidentally” my heart tells me proceed with extreme caution on arming non professional people. This incident was video taped and the guy killed was a non felon, as I recall.
I think, on such volunteer neighborhood watches, personnel that were armed would have to be licensed cops either off duty or retired.
You could possibly have 2 man/woman patrols with one armed and one not, or SOMETHING like that.
That nonsense is why so many cops rake in 6-figure salaries (in places with little overall crime, and no violent crime at all).
"...many officers believe there aren't enough of them to go around â especially in an emergency....

"I want to make sure if I call they're going to show up not 45 minutes later but within 10 minutes," Doucette said.
I applaud the small steps towards an admission of reality here.
While the acknowledgement that they are wildly understaffed is eye opening, the real takeaway is where they'd like to be. They would like to get down to a 10 min response time.
I don't know if any of you have ever been in a life-n-death situation. But 10 minutes can seem like an awfully long time. It takes mere seconds for an attacker or home invader to do permanent, life-altering or life-ending harm to you and or your loved ones. You have to be prepared to defend yourself. Not just now, when help may be 45 minutes away, but even in the best of times if help is "only" 10 minutes away. (I live in a somewhat rural area with an average response time between 10 and 20 minutes) Be prepared to take command of any situation, do not place yourself at the mercy of a criminal.
“Milita... you’re talking about militia. “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.””
Yes, “PEOPLE” has always been defined to mean “individual” in the context of the Constitution. To form the Militia was not a power reserved for the US government but delegated to the PEOPLE which meant it was not a power left to the states (Tenth Amendment). The purpose of the Second Amendment is to defend against an oppressive government. Why would the writers of the Constitution give the power of forming or controlling the Militia, firearms, or ammunition to entities they expected would become an oppressive government? either state or federal?
it goes for all govt jobs....all...
if cop work is so tough, so dangerous, why should people “volunteer” to do the dirty work?
....well, I’m not talking about “replacing” cops. My argument is that most towns can only afford a few of them and many towns can’t afford what they have and some are so broke they can’t afford to pay for ANY.
Sadly, there are women and kids and old folks and feminized men out there that still need some protection. And, since there is less and less money in most municipalities, “volunteer’s” seem the only answer unless someone re-invents the wheel (like mass deportation of everyone in prisons).
Finally, what I’m suggesting (organized, volunteer, and visible neighbor hood watch in two (or more) person teams) is nothing new. It’s already being done in many places.
